About the Event
Kyoto University and its group company Kyoto University Innovation Capital Co., Ltd. jointly established the innovation office at One&Co, located in CBD area of Tanjong Pagar, Singapore, in the summer of 2023. This event will mark the office’s first showcase event to present our innovative startups, researchers, and IPs. We will also introduce our activity plans in the ASEAN region. In parallel, opportunities for one-on-one meetings with the startups will also be available. Reception party will follow for further discussion and networking. Representatives from academia, government, and enterprise sectors, particularly startup investors, are warmly invited.

Kyoto University
Kyoto University was established in 1897 as Japan’s second imperial university. Currently, it is home to 23,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 3,500 faculty members. Kyoto University’ scientific discoveries and technological advances are evident: the faculty and alumni have been awarded 11 Nobel Prizes and 2 Fields Medals, and more than 250 university-related startups have been created. Expenditure in academic year 2022 was JPY 171 billion.

INNOVATION CAPITAL Co.,Ltd.Kyoto University Innovation Capital Co., Ltd. (KYOTO-iCAP) was founded in December 2014 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyoto University. Its main mission is to fund and support startup companies that commercialize the “knowledge” (research results, technologies, etc.) generated by the university’s researchers. Since its foundation, KYOTO-iCAP has invested in more than 60 university startups.

IPIAlvin How
Alvin How is Head of Strategy, Marketing & Communications at IPI where he oversees the development and operationalisation of organisational strategies through marketing and communications, as well as open innovation and partnerships functions. He was leading the food, healthcare and sustainability department until 2021, engaging enterprises to understand their innovation gaps and supporting them in adopting enabling technologies, innovations and know-how from IPI’s extensive network of technology partners.
Before joining IPI, Alvin worked as a Senior Chemist in specialty chemical firms where he accumulated knowledge in formulating, developing and providing technical assistance for industrial resins, decorative resins and other wood-related resins. He has completed numerous studies on chemical compounds, materials surface, polymer systems, and also successfully supported multiple scale-up trials in Malaysia, Thailand and China.
Alvin holds a Master of Business Administration from Singapore Management University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the National University of Singapore.
