STEM for National Progress: Science Castle Comes to the Philippines in 2025

18 January 2025 – For the first time ever, Science Castle is coming to the Philippines, organized by Leave a Nest Philippines Inc. at Ateneo de Manila University!

A flagship project of Leave a Nest’s education development division, Science Castle first launched in Osaka, Japan–inspired by the iconic Osaka Castle, which once stood as a beacon unifying innovation and progress. Since its founding in 2012, this multidisciplinary research conference has expanded across Asia, forming Science Castle in Asia (SCA) to foster cross-country collaborations in the name of research and progress. Over the years, Filipino high school students have actively participated in SCA, proudly representing the Philippines and winning awards that highlight the impressive scientific potential of Filipino youth.

In this inaugural event, Science Castle in the Philippines (SCPH) promises to be a conference like no other! With the theme “Siyensiyang makabayan para sa kaalaman, kaunlaran, at kinabukasan” (Patriotic science for knowledge, development, and the future), this initiative aims to empower students and promote interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the power of science, research, and the synergy of different fields in advancing national development and progress.

SCPH will feature solution-driven research projects that tackle pressing local issues, presented through engaging oral and poster sessions. Additionally, students from the Ki Ni Naru program will share curiosity-driven research, delving into the science behind everyday phenomena and underscoring the importance of fundamental scientific methods. 

Allowing students to explore new topics and further their scientific skills and knowledge, dynamic hands-on workshops will broaden their horizons and connections. Partner booths will likewise offer invaluable learning experiences beyond the classroom walls. Additionally, teachers and educators—the foundational pillars of our education system—will have the opportunity to engage in panel discussions, an open forum, and Edutech Talks, a special program segment designed to expand their professional repertoire.
