GKH Forum Special Session: Technology implementation and global collaboration that will bring Singapore‘s built environment scene to next level

Leave a Nest Singapore Pte. Ltd proudly announces a panel session between Ricoh, USS IEO, Novapeak and WaveScan Technologies in the Global Knowledge Hub Forum held at NTU Alumni House on January 22nd 9:00-16:00. 

In this special session, we will welcome Mr. Satoshi Yamamoto, Section Manager, Ricoh Innovation Center in Asia. Mr. Yamamoto is working on bringing some of the novel technologies developed by Ricoh to the ASEAN region, especially in the context of the building environment scene. In the special presentation from Mr. Yamamoto, we will be able to learn about the cutting edge solutions from Ricoh. 

In addition to this, there will be a panel discussion between key players from Singapore working on technologies and solutions related to the building environment scene. There will be members from USS IEO, national platform under A*STAR that commercialises cutting-edge technologies to address urban challenges and create economic opportunities, Novapeak, Singapore-based company offering enterprise solutions for asset inspections and construction monitoring using aerial drones, time-lapse cameras, and engineering videos, and WaveScan Technologies, A*STAR spin-off startup that provides AI-driven asset inspection solutions for the built environment using proprietary 4D sensing technology based on beam-forming electromagnetic, wireless sensors, and advanced AI algorithms. During the panel session, the audience will be able to hear exciting discussion on trends for implementation of the technology in the build environment scene as well as space for technology collaboration with other countries for development of even more advanced solutions.

Mr. Satoshi Yamamoto
Section Manager, Ricoh Innovation Center in Asia (RICA), Ricoh Co. 

In July 2023, he launched the Ricoh Innovation Center in Asia (RICA) to foster collaboration between Ricoh's R&D, research institutes, and startups in Southeast Asia. He has served as a technical leader and manager in advanced materials application and AI-based materials development acceleration. He also contributed to innovation policy for universities during his tenure at the Bureau for Science and He also contributed to innovation policy for universities during his tenure at the Bureau for Science and Technology Innovation in Japan in 2020.

Ms. Tina Chua
Deputy Director, USS Innovation & Enterprise Office (a national platform hosted at A*STAR)

Since joining ASTAR in 2023, Tina Chua has been an active advocate in championing, driving and promoting the business excellence journey. Her previous portfolio involved supporting the JTC Innovation Council. JTC is Singapore’s leading industrial infrastructure specialist spearheading the planning, promotion and development of a dynamic industrial landscape. The Innovation Council was co-chaired by two Assistant Chief Executives who steered strategic directions on corporate-wide innovation programme, government-led innovation initiatives and project management to support JTC in its positioning as a value-creating industrial infrastructure innovator (I3). Tina has over 20 years of professional experience in a multitude of disciplines in corporate and strategic planning, operation and business excellence, to spearheading open innovation challenges, industry partnership and engagement. She had been involved in the setting up of master-planning office for the National infocomm 2015 (iN2015), and project management of major infocomm and industrial projects. Her past achievements involved partnering local and overseas industry and research communities in open innovations to spearhead smart industrial solutions and technologies as part of the development towards a Smart Nation. In the innovation portfolio, she was the funding manager of S$50m budgeted for R&D between 2015 to 2020 and oversaw the JTC Open Innovation Challenges through crowdsourcing ideas for applied R&D and test-bedding of sustainable solutions to improve building management. Tina has a BSc in Management Science (Second Class Honours) from the University of London and an MSc in Innovation from the Singapore Management University. In 2012, she was awarded Outstanding Innovation Activist by the Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) and Public Service21 (Merits) in recognition of her contribution to the Public Service. She was recognised at the 2022 MND (Minister) Award for Project Title on “Use of Technologies for Bio-surveillance and Bio-security”.

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Eugene Choy
Managing Director, Nova-Peak Pte Ltd

Eugene Choy graduated with a background in Engineering and Commerce. He has worked extensively across the globe, managing a diverse portfolio for an Indonesian conglomerate that spans the mining, construction, industrial, retail, and aerospace industries. He was also part of the Singapore contingent that attended the APEC forum on globalization and formerly managed the functions of the Singapore Association of Shipsuppliers and Services as Executive Secretary. His portfolio includes engaging in dialogue sessions with various local governmental institutions. In 2023, Eugene incorporated NovaPeak (a subsidiary of ISDN Holdings listed on SGX 107.SI & HKEX 1656) to help advocate best practices within the construction monitoring, survey, and inspection industry. Eugene is a licensed drone pilot and is supported by NovaPeak’s team of certified façade inspectors and civil engineers. The company attained accreditation as a Type A Inspection Body (Singapore Accreditation Council) using drones and AI for periodic façade inspection.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Kush Agarwal
CEO, WaveScan Technologies Pte. Ltd.

Dr. Kush Agarwal, a scientist turned entrepreneur, is the Founder and CEO of WaveScan Technologies, an A*STAR spin-off company founded in 2018. WaveScan develops radar-based 3D imaging technology for diverse non-destructive testing (NDT) applications. Under Kush's leadership, the company has successfully produced its first-of-kind sub-cm resolution scanning tech, which is being utilized by the building, construction, and oil and gas industries for their NDT inspections. With a Ph.D. from NUS, Kush has over a decade of experience in wireless technologies R&D, bench-to-market productization, and management. He is also actively involved in various Singapore government initiatives and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.

Mr Shohei Michael Maekawa
Director, Leave a Nest Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Mr. Maekawa is Director of Leave a Nest Singapore and President of Leave a Nest UK. He was born in the USA and raised in Europe. He studied Zoology for his undergraduate degree and Evolutionary Anthropology for his postgraduate degree, both at University College London. With experience abroad and passion towards advancement of science and technology, he joined Leave a Nest in 2013. He became the Director of Leave a Nest Singapore Pte. Ltd. from May 1st 2019 with the vision to interconnect various industry partners for global development.
