Bandung, Indonesia – February 8, 2025 – The Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) Indonesia 2025, organized by Leave a Nest Malaysia in collaboration with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), successfully brought together researchers, startups, corporates, and academia for a full day of knowledge exchange and innovation. Held at Multipurpose Hall, CRCS Lvl. 3, ITB, the conference focused on Innovative & Emerging Food Technologies, addressing critical challenges in health, food security, and sustainability.

A Platform for Collaborative Innovation

The conference opened with a welcoming address by Dr. Ir. R. Sugeng Joko Sarwono, Director of the Science & Technology Park Directorate, followed by an insightful keynote speech by Dr. Dian Shofinita, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. from ITB’s Food Engineering Department. Her presentation, “A Study Case of Innovation in Food Engineering: Encapsulation,” highlighted the potential of encapsulation technology to enhance food quality and nutritional integrity.

Panel Discussions: Addressing Key Food & Health Challenges

HIC Indonesia 2025 featured two impactful panel sessions:

  • Panel 1: Innovating for Health – Enhancing Gut Health and Nutritional Integrity
    • Featuring Dr. Shinji Fukuda (Metagen Inc.), Dr. Eng. Kamarisima (ITB), and Dr. Budi Saksono (Amalose Tekno Indonesia).
    • Focused on the role of gut microbiome research, personalized nutrition, and dietary innovations in addressing malnutrition and food-related health issues in Indonesia.

  • Panel 2: Bridging Tradition and Technology – Showcasing Local Innovations in Food
    • Featuring Dr. Nur Akmalia Hidayati (BRIN) and Ms. Dwi Novanda Sari (Universitas Padjadjaran).
    • Explored how traditional food knowledge can be integrated with modern scientific advancements to create sustainable and nutritious food innovations.

Interactive Sessions and Knowledge Sharing

The event also included Pocket Talk Sessions, featuring 10 rapid 5-minute presentations from startups, corporates, and researchers, fostering quick idea-sharing and collaboration. Additionally, the Poster Session showcased 28 innovative research projects, with the Best Poster Award going to a study on Omega-3 gummy supplements from catfish oil to combat childhood malnutrition.

A Step Towards Indonesia Emas 2045

Aligned with Indonesia’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2045 (Indonesia Emas 2045), HIC Indonesia 2025 emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaborations in tackling food security, climate change, and technological advancements in agriculture and food production. The event attracted 183 participants, with strong representation from universities (75.15%), startups (16.8%), and industry players (6.5%).

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Indonesia’s Innovation Ecosystem

The conference concluded with an awards and closing ceremony, recognizing outstanding contributions and emphasizing the need for continued interdisciplinary collaboration. HIC Indonesia 2025 reinforced the importance of bridging academia, industry, and government to drive innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
