Science Castle Malaysia Concludes with Celebration of Innovation and Global Opportunity

KUCHING, MALAYSIA, July 31, 2025 — Science Castle Malaysia 2025 held at Makeramai Makerspace, Plaza Merdeka, Kuching, successfully concluded as a national platform for secondary school students to showcase their talents in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This impactful event forms part of an ongoing educational initiative between Leave a Nest Malaysia (LVNSMY) and Ajinomoto (Malaysia) Berhad, aimed at empowering STEM education in East Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak, with the strong support of the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD).
The one-day science conference welcomed over 500 secondary school students, alongside teachers, government stakeholders, and corporate partners—coming together to celebrate youth-driven innovation and the growing momentum of science education in the region.
Since its inception in Malaysia in 2017, Science Castle has evolved into a leading platform for cultivating critical thinking and scientific problem-solving among high school students. After expanding to the regional stage in 2023, the 2025 edition continued to carry this mission forward by empowering participants to tackle real-world challenges in their communities and drive sustainable development through science and technology. Notably, this year’s event also marked a significant milestone in promoting inclusivity, ensuring equal participation and visibility for students from East Malaysia, alongside their peers from the Peninsular.
The conference was officiated by Haji Zamzaitul Akmal Hisham bin Ahmad, Deputy Director, Student Development Sector, Sarawak State Education Department who emphasized that such initiatives are crucial in closing the gap in STEM involvement among high school students, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, compared to other states in Malaysia.
A total of 56 teams showcased their projects across three presentation categories: Poster Presentation, Oral Presentation, and Splash Presentation. This variety of formats enabled students to communicate their research in ways that best aligned with their ideas and experience. The projects covered a wide range of topics, including environmental sustainability, health and hygiene, agricultural innovation, robotics, and food security.
The event concluded with an award ceremony celebrating outstanding research presentations across all categories. A total of 14 awards were presented during the closing session. Select teams from Science Castle Malaysia 2025 will be invited to represent the country on an international stage at Science Castle Asia 2025, to be held at Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya, where they will join student researchers from across Asia. Additionally, a special award sponsored by SDEC was presented to the most outstanding team, granting them the opportunity to participate in Science Castle World in Tokyo, Japan at the end of this year.
