HICMY 2025: Panel Session 3 on Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable Water Resources

This session explores how collaboration among technology developers, researchers, and academic institutions can drive sustainable water resource management. Panelists will discuss innovative technologies for water leakage detection and conservation, purification and efficient distribution, alongside evidence-based strategies derived from current research and field applications. Emphasis will be placed on data-driven systems, community engagement, and policy frameworks that strengthen long-term water security. By connecting diverse expertise and fostering cross-sector partnerships, the discussion aims to identify practical pathways toward resilient and sustainable water management for future generations.

Meet the Panelists

Dr. Takatsugu Kobayashi, Global Business Development Lead at TENCHIJIN INC., brings a global perspective shaped by his experience in data science, robotics, and urban systems. With a Master's degree from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Indiana University, he has led projects across Asia and the United States that integrate AI, GIS, and high-performance computing to solve challenges in logistics, agriculture, and urban resilience. His work demonstrates how data-driven innovation and geospatial analytics can optimize water management systems, ensuring efficiency and sustainability across sectors.

Mr. Muhammad Azroie bin Mohamed Yusoff, Senior Research Officer at the National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM), contributes over 17 years of expertise in water quality, treatment technologies, and environmental microbiology. His research spans from developing eco-friendly bioflocculant systems and smart water sensors to leading national projects on pollution control and flood adaptation. Through his patented innovations and community-driven initiatives, Mr. Azroie exemplifies how scientific research can be translated into practical solutions that strengthen Malaysia’s water resilience and security.

Dr. Zainal Hasfi Hashim, currently an Adjunct Professor from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), brings over three decades of strategic experience from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). Having served as Deputy Director in Islamic Banking, Takaful, and Payment Systems departments, he played a key role in formulating national frameworks, international collaborations, and data-based decision systems. His policy and governance background provide valuable insight into how institutional alignment, stakeholder engagement, and long-term policy direction can support sustainable water governance, linking financial systems thinking with resource management strategies.

Moderating the session is Prof. Dr. Norhayah Zulkifli, who will guide the discussion toward actionable insights and collaboration opportunities among research, technology, and industry players.

Shaping a Resilient Water Future

This panel brings together diverse minds united by a common goal: securing Malaysia’s water future through innovation and collaboration. The dialogue underscores that sustainable water management is not just a technological challenge but a shared responsibility across science, policy, and community. As Malaysia advances its commitment to environmental resilience, this session highlights the importance of integrating research, governance, and technology to ensure water security for generations to come.
