Leave a Nest Singapore Announces Awardee for L Grant Thailand 2026 – Climate Smart Agriculture

Singapore – 27 April 2026
Leave a Nest Singapore is pleased to announce the awardee for the L Grant Thailand 2026 – Climate Smart Agriculture Award, a seed funding initiative designed to support early-stage research addressing real-world challenges in agriculture and sustainability.
Why Thailand, Why Climate Smart Agriculture
Thailand presents a unique and dynamic landscape where agriculture remains deeply connected to both community livelihoods and environmental challenges. From water management in rice systems to air pollution caused by agricultural burning, the need for practical, scalable, and climate-resilient solutions is increasingly urgent.
Through our engagements across Northern and Central Thailand, we observed a strong ecosystem of researchers who are not only advancing scientific knowledge but are also actively working with farmers to implement solutions on the ground. This inspired the focus on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) for this cycle, supporting innovations that improve productivity, enhance resilience, and reduce environmental impact.
A Highly Competitive and Diverse Pool of Applications
This year, the L Grant received 39 applications from researchers, institutions, and innovators across Thailand and beyond. The proposals reflected a wide range of approaches, including soil health, circular agriculture, AI-driven systems, materials science, and sustainable resource utilisation.
Beyond technical evaluation, Leave a Nest Singapore also placed strong emphasis on identifying researchers who demonstrate openness to collaboration and long-term engagement within the ecosystem, alongside key considerations including relevance to Climate Smart Agriculture, innovation and scientific merit, real-world impact and feasibility, and potential for ecosystem engagement and collaboration.
Selection of the Awardee
After careful evaluation and discussion, the award has been presented to:
Dr. Prakash Murgeppa Bhuyar (Maejo University, Thailand)
Dr. Prakash's project on biochar application to reduce PM2.5 emissions and improve soil health stood out for its strong alignment with both local challenges and broader sustainability goals. His work offers a practical alternative to open burning, addressing a critical issue in Northern Thailand while directly benefiting farmers through improved soil productivity.
What further distinguished this project was its clear pathway for implementation and scaling, including the potential to integrate into carbon credit systems and create sustainable income streams for farming communities.
Beyond the Grant: Building an Ecosystem
While only one awardee is selected, the L Grant is designed to be more than a funding program. It serves as a platform to connect researchers with industry and international partners, enable cross-border collaboration, and support the growth of ideas into impactful solutions. Leave a Nest would like to express its sincere appreciation to all applicants for their contributions. The quality and diversity of submissions highlight the strong potential within the region, and many projects have been identified for future collaboration opportunities across platforms such as Tech Planter Thailand and the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC).
Raising Ahead
Leave a Nest remains committed to supporting the development of Climate Smart Agriculture solutions and strengthening connections between researchers, industry, and communities. We look forward to working with Dr. Prakash and the broader network of applicants to drive meaningful impact in Thailand and beyond.
