iVET won TECH PLAN DEMO DAY in THAILAND 2018

Leave a Nest conducted its third TECH PLAN DEMO DAY in THAILAND on 23rd June 2018. This year, the event was held at National Innovation Agency, NIA.

Out of 20 applications, 9 finalists had been selected to present their business projects to the panel of judges from Leave a Nest, Japan Tobacco Inc., Mitsui Chemicals Singapore R&D Centre Pte. Ltd., TCELS, euglena Co,. Ltd., National Innovation Agency, Thailand (NIA) and FocusTech Ventures.

iVET won the Grand Winner prize for their passion to improve lives of disabled pets and bringing happiness to the owners in Thailand. The winner received JPY300,000 cash prize, return airfares and accommodation for 2 team members to join TECH PLAN DEMO DAY in SINGAPORE 2018 in the final regional round. The winner from Singapore round will be invited to join meeting in Tokyo Japan in March 2019.

An additional award was given by the judges (please refer to below for details). Leave a Nest will provide continuous support for winners and finalists to accelerate their projects.

Mr. Ando introduced euglena and its 12-year long journey from being a university-based startup to becoming a corporation. euglena Co., Ltd. is the first company to produce biofuel from microalgae. He encouraged the finalists not to give up their passion in the issue that they want to solve.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Mr. Shohei Michael Maekawa, Director of Global Bridge Laboratory., followed by a keynote presentation by Mr. Takashi Ando, Technical Director of euglena Co,. Ltd. This was the first visit by euglena and he highlighted how euglena started from a startup to a successful company today and gave tips on the most important things to succeed if one is from a university-based startup.

The grand winner of last year's TECH PLAN DEMO DAY in Thailand, Dr. Sasimanas Unajak from Fish Health, gave a keynote presentation on her progress after joining TECH PLANTER.

JT Award winner in last year's TECH PLANTER in SINGAPORE, Dr. Chia Lye Peng from Flexosense also gave a keynote presentation which highlighted her work and progress.

Dr. Kihoko Tokue, Managing Director of Leave a Nest Singapore gave a heartwarming speech to encourage all our participants not to give up on their passion and work, even though they had not been selected as finalists or winners.
