My specialty at university was public economics.After that, I worked as a social insurance laborer for more than 10 years.

First of all, I became interested in the field of social security when I was in high school, which led me to become a certified social insurance laborer. Later, through my work as a labor and social security attorney, I became interested in the fact that people can work to the fullest of their abilities.

Yes, I do. Previously, I ran my own social security office for six years.

I was told about Leave a Nest by a person at a recruiting agency. However, I later read Maru-san's book and became interested in Leave a Nest more and more.

We don't work by being told what to do by our superiors, but by thinking for ourselves. However, since we are working under the same vision, we are cohesive and have a strong arrow power.

I wanted to do something related to the health sciences as I originally wanted to become a medical doctor.

Before doing my graduate studies, I worked as an instructor at the University of the Philippines for around 3 years, teaching subjects such as general, inorganic, organic, and analytical chemistry. After graduating from my PhD and before working at Leave a Nest, I used to work at a business consultancy company called Intralink, which was based in London but had branches in Japan, China, and South Korea. The company worked to help companies from Europe and the US expand into East Asia, and I was in charge of helping biotechnology and medical device companies in general.

Q4. How did you come across Leave a Nest? *

When I was a graduate student at Kumamoto University, Maru-san (the group CEO) did a special seminar for students of my program. The company piqued my curiosity because I was especially interested in science communication during that time.

Q5. What do you think is unique about Leave a Nest? *

I like the fact that the company has the divisions divided not by function (where other companies have marketing, business development, corporate strategy, PR, etc) but instead are divided according to the sector of society involved in science and technology where we are trying to solve issues.

Q6. How does it feel like to meet all sorts of people involved in science and technology? *

I am a naturally curious person, so meeting all sorts of people and hearing their technologies and research, as well as their personal stories is the part that I enjoy most about working at Leave a Nest!

Q7. What kind of work do you do at Leave a Nest? *

I am currently assigned at the Frontier Development Division at the Japan HQ, helping researchers and startups bring their technologies to society. I am also the Representative Director for our Philippine subsidiary, helping improve the situation in my home country by accelerating the development of science and technology.

Q8.What is the most challenging part of your job? *

Trying to change the world is not an easy job because you have a lot of work to do! As I am also working both in Japanese and English (and sometimes in my local languages due to my work in the Philippines), conversing in languages that I am not really native in can sometimes easily tire me out too.

Q9. What is your passion? *

I am really passionate about improving the situation in my home country (hence the establishment of Leave a Nest in the Philippines!), and also want to spread the unique way of thinking that Leave a Nest has to people in my country and other parts of the world.

Q10. What do you hope to achieve with Leave a Nest after 5 years? *

I am positively hoping that my endeavor to officially bring Leave a Nest to the Philippines will certainly bring change. One of the reasons that I also wanted to start this is to provide more options for work for scientists in my country, so I hope that the subsidiary itself can group in number in the next few years.

I have always described myself (and people have also told me too) that I am an art-person at heart but trained as a science-person. Given that I went through graduate school and got my PhD, I am sure that I have the skill set the makes a scientist. However, most of my hobbies and skills are inclined way towards the arts: singing, dancing, writing, taking photos and videos and editing them, are just a few of the things that I purely enjoy.

Career Discovery Forum

Career Discovery Forum (CDF) is a unique event that started in Tokyo, Japan in 2016. It was introduced by Leave a Nest Group and started as a seminar where university students, researchers, and companies exchanged thoughts and visions with the aim to create new science research topics and design future careers together. Unlike other career fairs, CDF gave the opportunity for employers to identify potential talents outside normal recruitment channels.

Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference

In this decade, the number of scientific publications were increased in exponential manner. However, the body of knowledge we human being can grasp did not increase as so. To fill this gap, we create the concept “Hyper Interdisciplinary” in 2002. Since then, we Leave a Nest act as Science Bridge Communicator to connect various specialists; such as scientists, engineers, business person, maestro from factory, medical doctor, farmer, educator and etc. We hypothesize that “Hyper Interdisciplinary” network of specialists is the key to make the body of human knowledge be exponential, too. This is where amazing happens.

3. Representative interview

In interviews with Leave a Nest representatives from various countries, you can communicate directly about what you want to know about Leave a Nest and what you want to do.

4. Employee interviews and finding mentors

In order to see matching with Leave a Nest, you can join meetings different employees as mentors until each party understand well.

5. Interview with division managers

Through discussions with mentors, we will also decide divisions which are closer to the future in which you want to realize.

6. Final meeting by representatives

As a final interview, we will again hold an interview with representatives from each country.

7. Final presentation at whole company meeting ( to decide offer )

As a final stage, you will give a presentation in front of all Leave a Nest employees to share your vision and what you want to do.

Internal Education Program

In order to realize our corporate philosophy of “Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness,” Leave a Nest employees not only have a thorough knowledge of science and technology, but also need to communicate extensively with a wide range of researches, engineers, companies, local governments, and others. In particular, in order to involve a large number of people in the projects they are involved in and lead to success, they need to be able to communicate the attractiveness and potential of the technologies and sciences they handle to the fullest extent possible.

In light of this, Leave a Nest provides training programs on basic skills and mindset so that all employees can grow into “science bridge leaders” with the skills to communicate science and technology in an easy-to-understand manner.

About Internships

Leave a Nest was founded in 2001 as a student venture by 15 science and engineering students. At the time of establishment, the business was centered on experimental classes that conveyed cutting-edge science. Members met on the weekdays of the laboratory to hold planning meetings.

Against this backdrop, Leave a Nest continues to conduct weekend-type interns every Sunday, and offices in various countries also recruit participants whenever necessary.

As a general rule, the subject envisions graduate school students and postdoc students, but you have a diverse track record, such as students and weekday interns.
