Helical Fusion and Leave a Nest Singapore Lead Dialogue on Singapore’s Future Energy Landscape

Helical Fusion , a Japan-based fusion startup, in partnership with Leave a Nest Singapore , successfully conducted the Innovation in Energy – The Nuclear Fusion Dialogue on 17 September 2025 . The session was hosted at Hatch , which supported the event as the partner. The closed-door roundtable brought together thought leaders from research, corporates, and investors to explore one critical question: How can Singapore prepare for the future of energy, and what role might nuclear fusion play in that journey venue?
Helical Fusion: Advancing the Future of Energy
At the dialogue, Takaya Taguchi , CEO of Helical Fusion, presented the company's vision to commercialize the helical stellarator , a proven and stable approach to achieving sustained fusion power.
“We believe the helical stellarator is the only approach that can meet the requirements for commercialization, steady-state operation, net electricity generation, and maintainability. Our roadmap is clear: a demonstration plant around 2030 and the world's first commercially viable fusion power plant by the 2030s,” said Taguchi.
Helical Fusion's technology builds on decades of world-class research and engineering expertise, now taking concrete steps toward global commercialization. The company's participation in the Singapore dialogue reflects its commitment to explore regional partnerships, including collaborations in standards, research, and capability building.
Ecosystem Perspectives on Singapore's Role
The roundtable underscored Singapore's unique potential to complement fusion innovation through business development, research infrastructure, and cross-sector collaboration. A*STAR's Andrew Ngo noted that Singapore's research capabilities in aerospace and semiconductors could be repurposed to test materials and model extreme environments, foundations that take years to develop and should begin now. HY's Matthew Chew added that Singapore could set the global gold standard for advanced reactors, developing digital twins and micro-grids to prepare for commercial deployment. CapitaLand's Aylwin Tan emphasized the corporate view, pointing out that stable and predictable energy costs are essential to anchor operations in sectors like real estate, data centers, and food production areas that could greatly benefit from the steady and reliable supply that fusion promises.
These insights reflected a shared belief that Singapore's strengths in regulation, innovation, and ecosystem-building make it an ideal hub for fusion readiness and commercialization .
Looking Ahead
While the Innovation in Energy – Nuclear Fusion Dialogue was held as a closed-door discussion, the momentum continues at the upcoming Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) Singapore 2025 , themed “The Future of Energy: Powering a Thriving Net Zero 2050.”
We're also excited to share that Mr. Takaya Taguchi , CEO of Helical Fusion , will be delivering the keynote speech at this year's HIC, setting the stage for an inspiring day of innovation and interdisciplinary exchange.
Helical Fusion will also join a dedicated Nuclear Fusion Panel alongside key ecosystem partners to further explore collaboration opportunities in Singapore and across the region.
