An International Sharing Session: Tsunagu 2021 Midterm 2
On 30th October 2021 (Thursday) from 4:10pm to 5:40pm GMT+8, the Midterm 2 for the TSUNAGU Research Project was held. The purpose of this event was to bring the students together to present how their research would impact the palm oil industry with directions towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). There were a total of 12 schools with a sum of around 116 students coming from Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. This event was organised on a fully online platform.

This session begins with an opening remark by Mr Nur Ahmad Zaim from Leave a Nest Malaysia in which he gave an overview of Tsunagu Research Project 2021 and the purpose of the Midterm 2 event. Later, FGV Holdings Berhad, the partner for Tsunagu Research Project 2021 provided special remarks with Dr. Ros Haniza Borhan, Head of Food Technology Unit shared information on downstream research in palm oil industry specifically (food technology). Afterwards, the students were separated into breakout rooms according to their respective SDG groups. Here, each school shared their research works and gained suggestions and comments from the audience mostly from FGV researchers. Overall, the students have done a good job to achieve each of their missions with direction to their respective SDG. In the end of the Midterm 2, Dr. Makoto Togami provides closing remarks by delivering inspirational talk on the importance of asking questions or having discussions and how your research could benefit others, maybe in 100 years from now.
Last but not list, Tsunagu Research Project 2021 announced a Tsunagu bonding session scheduled on 29th October 2021. The session will provide several compelling prizes with the students need to involve in two games. The idea of this session is to promote more interaction between students across different schools and countries.
With the closing of the Midterm 2, the next step for the students is to proceed doing their research and experiments before they could present their finals findings at SCIENCE CASTLE JAPAN 2021 which will be on 18th & 19th December 2021.
