Planting Soon: TECH PLANTER in the Philippines 2024 Demo Day taking its root tomorrow!
With a grand vision of “Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness”, the Leave a Nest Philippines, together with the whole Leave a Nest Group, is taking numerous concurrent leaps to ensure a thriving S&T ecosystem. Building an issue- and passion-driven ecosystem, the Leave a Nest Philippines continues its flagship initiative on building the S&T-heavy Deep Tech ecosystem here in the Philippines, the TECH PLANTER and the TECH PLAN Demo Day. Conducted in 6 Southeast Asian countries, the TECH PLANTER aims to become a springboard for deep tech researchers and startups to connect with the Leave a Nest ecosystem here in the Philippines, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia while honing them to receive different support like prototyping support, IP strategy, and investments.
This year, Leave a Nest Philippines will be conducting the 8th Demo Day implementation of this program which will be conducted tomorrow May 11, 2024 (Saturday) from 12:30 PM – 6:00 PM at the recently-established Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building, University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
Finalists and Lightning Talks
For this 2024, there are nine (9) Finalists focusing in various deep tech fields like food-tech, eco-tech and life-tech who will be coming in to pitch head-to-head for a chance to represent the Philippines during TECH PLANTER Asia Final 2024 on August 2024 in Cyberjaya, Malaysia and also win several prizes monetary and non-monetary support from the Program Partners.

Dr. Yevgeny Aster Dulla, Managing Director Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc. Yev was born and raised in Iloilo City, Philippines. He graduated with a degree in BS Chemistry from the University of the Philippines – Visayas, after which he worked as an instructor at the University of the Philippines – Manila. He came to Japan in 2013 to pursue graduate studies where he acquired his Masters in Health Life Sciences and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2020, he joined Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. and is currently under the Human Development Division, and is part of the Kansai/Osaka office, as well as the Group Creation Division. He is also a Balik Scientist Awardee for 2020~2021, and is a co-founder and the Managing Director for Leave a Nest’s Philippine office, their newest subsidiary. |

Atty. Javier P. Flores, Partner The Law Office of Flores & Ofrin Atty. Flores was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1999. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1994 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law in 1998, both from the University of the Philippines. He is heavily into litigation and corporate law practice as well as intellectual property law. He has successfully litigated cases involving construction disputes before the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission; intra-corporate disputes under the Interim Rules of Intra-Corporate Controversies; and proceedings before the regular courts involving injunctive relief, property, and family law. He has developed expertise in projects involving power, ecological solid waste management, and real estate development. He is the Corporate Secretary of various companies and industry associations including the Philippine Travel Agencies Association Inc. and the Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society. |

Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Executive Director Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) Dr. Enrico C. Paringit started as the Executive Director of DOST-PCIEERD in December 2018. An outstanding engineer, he led game-changing programs and projects in land surveying, remote sensing and geographic information system, environmental monitoring, and disaster risk assessment and management. One of these is the Disaster Risk Assessment, Exposure and Mitigation-Light Ranging and Detection Technology or DREAM LiDAR, which addresses the effects of flooding disasters in the Philippines through accurate national terrain elevation maps and training of LiDAR and flood mapping experts. |

Ms. Dara Ever Juan, Head, Innovations Lab & Ecosystem Partnerships (Innolab) PLDT Inc. Dara is the Head of PLDT Innovations Lab and Ecosystem Partnerships or Innolab, focused on co-creating and co-innovating breakthrough solutions with innovators. Dara inculcates a culture of innovation in PLDT Group by designing and organizing open innovation activities such as MVP Geek Olympics (an MVP group-wide hackathon) and PLDT & Smart Startup Innovation Challenge to create a sustainable collaborative environment. She manages PLDT’s co-working laboratory in Makati where solutions testing, prototyping and client POCs happen. She acts as an advocate to drive collaboration and community initiatives and execute a roll-out strategy for potential business opportunities with startups in PLDT Enterprise. She is also an alumna of Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Professional Fellow for Economic Empowerment. |

Mr. Jay Fajardo, Executive Director QBO Innovation Jay is a serial venture builder who has founded many startups over the years and is an advocate of innovation from the grassroots. With roles as co-founder and adviser in various tech startups, he is considered to be one of the pioneers and shapers of the Philippine tech startup ecosystem. He is currently the Executive Director at Manila-based VC and accelerator IDEASPACE/QBO. He is also the founder and CEO of agile development firm PROUDCLOUD, deploying agile product development teams to startups, scaleups, and tech enabled enterprises. |

Mr. Ryo Inori, Sales Manager Focus Systems Corporation Ryo Inori joined Focus Systems Corporation in 2015. He is responsible for the sales of information security products such as data encryption for the financial industry, as well as content security products such as copyright protection for still and moving digital data. He has been promoting information security products such as data encryption for the financial industry, as well as content security products such as copyright protection for digital data of still and moving images. He is also engaged in the promotion of services in the manufacturing and medical industries. Currently, in parallel with his product sales activities, he is also working with startup companies and university research laboratories. |

P. Magaling, CPA, MBA, Finance and Accounting Sohbi Kohgei (Phils.), Inc. Mr. Magaling is a dynamic CPA armed with an MBA from the Lyceum of the Philippines. Over the past 8 years, he’s made his mark by beginning his career as a department head and swiftly rose to the position of Assistant General Manager for Administration at Sohbi Kohgei (Phils) Inc (SKPI). SKPI, a company registered under PEZA, is a recognized leader in manufacturing high precision metal stamped parts, assembly units, parts and components for electronic and automotive products. Recently, the company has diversified to penetrate the manufacturing of metal parts for motorcycles. |

Mr. Norio Asahara, Regional R&D Director Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd. Glico manufactures not only confectionery and ice cream, but also a wide range of food categories such as beverages, dairy products, processed foods and baby milk powder. Mr. Asahara is the director of research and development in Glico Asia Pacific. He is looking for new research partners as well as technical support, investment and opportunities for various collaborations such as buying of new ingredients. He is responsible for new business in Asia Pacific. |
