Keynote Speaker Mary Marceller Spark from Sarawak Lighting the Future of Science and Education

At the heart of Science Castle lies a commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists, thinkers, and leaders. Each year, the keynote session serves as a powerful source of inspiration, showcasing individuals whose journeys embody resilience, discovery, and the pursuit of meaningful change. Last year, we had the honour of hosting Kapten Kehormat James, a Guinness World Record holder and the youngest pilot to complete a solo flight around the world in a single-engine aircraft. This year, we welcome another remarkable individual whose journey in science and innovation continues the legacy of inspiration. Their work not only advances discovery but also empowers the next generation to believe in the power of science to change the world.
This year, we are honoured to welcome Mary Marceller Anak Ricky as the keynote speaker for Science Castle Malaysia 2025. Hailing from Kuching, Sarawak, and of Iban heritage, Mary represents the spirit of youth-driven innovation and the power of education to transform lives. An active participant in STEM and innovation since 2017, Mary has proudly represented Malaysia in regional science competitions, including Science Castle Malaysia in 2017 and Science Castle Singapore in 2018 through Leave a Nest initiatives. She was also a recipient of the My Cro Special Award at Science Castle Asia 2018, which is a testament to her commitment to creative problem-solving and teamwork in school innovation projects.
Currently pursuing her degree in teaching at the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (Batu Lintang Campus), Mary aspires to become a dedicated and visionary educator. Her passion lies in empowering rural students through inclusive, creative, and values-based learning. She strongly believes that innovation is not confined to laboratories, it belongs in classrooms, in communities, and in the hearts of those who dare to dream beyond limits. With a heart for teaching and a vision for change, Mary is passionate about creating learning environments that are inclusive, creative, and rooted in strong values.
“Teach with heart, lead with vision, and shape an extraordinary generation” this is the motto that guides Mary. In her keynote, she will share her personal journey, her passion for the Malay language, and her mission to inspire the next generation of changemakers in education and science. Her story is a powerful reminder that leadership has no age limit, and that even the smallest spark of curiosity and courage can lead to meaningful change.
We would like to invite high school students from Kuching to attend as visitors and observe the oral and poster presentations on 31 July 2025. Kindly fill in the visitor form https://linktr.ee/sciencecastle
