Start of the many firsts: TECH PLANTER BLOOMS IN VISAYAS THIS 2024!

The Leave a Nest Philippines is excited to announce that the First Regional Implementation of Visayas TECH PLANTER, is now open for applications!

This initiative started in Japan in 2014, and has also been implemented in the Philippines since 2017. Following Japan’s regional initiatives, this is the first regional Tech Planter among the Leave a Nest subsidiaries, which will focus on supporting deep tech researchers and startups in the Visayas region only.

Deep tech by definition is any technology that requires a certain extent of research and development – which includes fields like agriculture and fisheries, marine science, biotechnology, food technology, clean technologies, healthcare technology, engineering, and the like

Even though Tech Planter in the Philippines has supported researchers and startups from different areas in the country, due to the archipelagic nature of the Philippines, a more decentralized model of support is needed where local players in the different regions play a role in supporting the local deep technology ecosystem. This is one of the similarities that the Philippines has with Japan, which is why following a similar model also can pose a possible solution for the gap of resources between Manila and the other regions in the Philippines. In Japan, we have seen local companies, banks, and government offices support Tech Planter in order to help their local deep tech startup ecosystem – and consecutively their local economy – grow.

In line with this, Leave a Nest Philippines is inviting all higher education institutions, deep tech startups, university-based and private incubators and accelerators, and all Philippine startup enablers based in Visayas to encourage and showcase their deep tech research teams, ideators and startups through the upcoming VISAYAS TECH PLANTER 2024 (VISAYAS TP), which will hold its Demo Day on August 10, 2024 at Iloilo Convention Center (ICC), Iloilo City.
