A New Chapter Unfolds: TECH PLANTER Expands in Visayas with Its Second Regional Edition in 2025!
Following the successful launch of the first-ever Visayas TECH PLANTER in 2024, Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc. is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Second Regional Implementation of TECH PLANTER in Visayas. First established in Japan in 2014, TECH PLANTER has been running in the Philippines since 2017. While the program has long supported researchers and startups nationwide, a regionalized approach is crucial in fostering deep tech ecosystems across the country. Inspired by Japan’s regional TECH PLANTER model, Visayas TECH PLANTER is the first regional edition among Leave a Nest subsidiaries, focusing exclusively on deep tech innovators in the Visayas region.
Deep tech refers to technology that is grounded in significant research and development, often emerging from academic or scientific discoveries. At Leave a Nest (LVNS), we define deep tech as innovations that aim to solve deep-rooted societal issues—those that cannot be addressed by surface-level solutions alone. These technologies span across fields such as agriculture, fisheries, marine science, biotechnology, food technology, clean energy, healthcare technology, and engineering.
This mission aligns strongly with the Visayas region, where communities are deeply connected to agriculture and fisheries. The region faces unique, complex challenges that require equally innovative responses—from adapting to climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems to increasing agricultural productivity while preserving natural resources. By bringing Tech Planter Visayas back in this region, we seek to continue uncovering and empowering local researchers and startups who are developing solutions grounded in both science and local context.
The inaugural Visayas TECH PLANTER 2024 in Iloilo City was a resounding success, showcasing the region’s immense innovation potential and uniting deep tech researchers, startups, and key industry players. With strong support from local and international partners, the event demonstrated that Visayas-based innovators are ready to create a lasting impact. Building on this momentum, Visayas TECH PLANTER 2025 invites a new wave of visionary teams to present their game-changing ideas and connect with a network that can help propel their innovations forward.
The Visayas TECH PLANTER 2025 Demo Day will take place on August 2, 2025, at Marco Polo, Cebu City. Applications are open to higher education institutions, deep tech startups, university-based and private incubators & accelerators, and startup enablers based in Visayas. The application period is now open, with the final day of registration on May 11, 2025.
