Helical Fusion Engages Southeast Asia’s Next Generation: Showcasing Fusion Energy as a Future Industry at Science Castle Singapore 2026

Helical Fusion Co., Ltd. (“Helical Fusion”) participated as a partner in Science Castle Singapore 2026, an international research conference for secondary school students held on April 11, 2026 at Woodlands Regional Library and organized by Leave a Nest Singapore.

The event brought together more than 130 participants, including students, educators, and industry professionals. A total of 12 oral and 44 poster presentations were delivered, creating a vibrant environment for cross-border and cross-disciplinary exchange.

Fusion energy, built on decades of global research, is now entering a phase where practical implementation is being actively pursued within the coming decade. Realizing this vision requires integrating knowledge from multiple fields into a single, functioning system. With this long-term perspective in mind, Helical Fusion joined the event to engage directly with the next generation who will carry this work forward.

Connecting 70 Years of Research to the Next Generation

Fusion energy is not the result of a single breakthrough, but of sustained progress in both fundamental science and engineering. The helical design pursued by Helical Fusion builds on approximately 70 years of research conducted at Japanese universities and national research institutes, representing knowledge accumulated across generations.※1

As such, the advancement of fusion depends not only on today’s researchers, but on those who will continue this work in the decades ahead. This perspective aligns with Science Castle, an initiative launched by Leave a Nest in 2012 to connect researchers and society across Japan and Southeast Asia, leading to Helical Fusion’s participation in this program.

Bringing Fusion Energy Closer to the Next Generation

Ahead of the award ceremony, a special session introduced Helical Fusion’s efforts toward the practical realization of fusion energy.

The session highlighted that delivering fusion to society requires more than scientific and technological breakthroughs—it also depends on regulatory frameworks, industrial ecosystems, and public acceptance. Progress, therefore, relies on collaboration across disciplines and generations.

A key message shared with the students was that contributing to the advancement of science and technology is not limited to becoming a researcher—there are many paths to be involved.

Rather than presenting fusion as a distant or abstract technology, the session encouraged students to see it as a field they could actively shape in the future.

Building Connections with Future Talent in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is poised for significant growth in science and technology talent, driven by its young population and strong interest in education. In Singapore, research capabilities in the energy sector are expanding, including the establishment of nuclear and fusion-related initiatives at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

At the same time, countries such as Malaysia are accelerating data center development at a national level, leading to rapidly increasing demand for stable, large-scale energy supply. This trend is driving greater interest in next-generation energy solutions, including fusion.

Looking Ahead

Leave a Nest has been working with Helical Fusion to advance initiatives toward the social implementation of fusion energy in Southeast Asia, in collaboration with governments and industry partners.※2
