Sustainable Aquaculture Summit 2024
Why Aquaculture and Sustainability?
Blue foods production from aquaculture surpassed that from wild fish catch, and the demand is expected to double by 2050. Aquaculture plays a key role in boosting supplies of nutritious and healthy food for billions of consumers around the world, as it becomes the new source of sustainable protein for food security.
However, aquaculture’s rapid growth causes unintended negative environmental, social and economic consequences that require a shift to more sustainable practices. Therefore, stakeholder partnerships are important to ensure aquaculture becomes a more sustainable and climate-friendly industry
Objectives
- Identify challenges and opportunities in the aquaculture and marine industry, especially in implementing sustainability practices
- Develop strategies and synergize efforts to overcome challenges
- Showcasing innovative research and development
- Initiate cross-border collaborations and networking in the aquaculture research and industry in Malaysia and SEA
