Great Teacher Summit 2024 Empowers Educators with Innovative Strategies and Global Collaboration
Cyberjaya, October 19, 2024 – The Great Teacher Summit 2024 (GTS 2024), held at the Faculty of Management, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, brought together over 250 educators, experts, and stakeholders from nine countries across Southern Asia, including Japan, for a collaborative exchange of ideas, strategies, and insights aimed at transforming education.
In conjunction with Science Castle in Asia, GTS 2024 carried the theme, “Enriching Teachers Through Exceptional Teaching and Learning,” promoting innovation in education and emphasizing peer-led learning among educators from various sectors, including NGOs, associations, and industry leaders.
The summit commenced with a keynote address by Dr. Ihsan Ismail from the Institute of Aminuddin Baki, who shared how digital AI technologies are revolutionizing STEM education. He highlighted how AI-driven tools, such as gamification, virtual simulations, and collaborative platforms, can empower teachers and spark students' curiosity, paving the way for future innovators.
A panel discussion on “Nurturing Peer-Led Professional Development Towards Educational Excellence” featured esteemed speakers including AP Dr. Chatree Faikhamta from Kasetsart University, Ms. Ah Ho Yen Sze from Persatuan Guru STEM Malaysia, and Dr. Poh Swee Hiang from Pelangi Publishing Group. They shared insights on the evolving role of educators and the importance of continuous professional development.
The Asian Sharing Session was another key feature, with representatives from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines exchanging insights on their countries' educational systems. This global dialogue enhanced participants' understanding of diverse educational practices across the region.
The event showcased 25 poster presentations during the Aspiring Educators Symposium, involving teachers from primary and secondary schools, postgraduate students, and educators from Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Workshops and roundtable discussions, led by partners including Focus Systems, Chumbaka, and ShazInnovation, further encouraged dialogue on innovative educational practices.
The summit concluded with poster awards presented to exemplary educators: Dr. Shahrina Ismail from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia for the Pelangi Publishing Award, Ms. Melissa Ann from Philippine Science High School-Cordillera Administrative Region Campus for the Chumbaka Award, Ms. Subasini Anamula from Universiti Putra Malaysia for the Chumbaka and ShazInnovation Awards, and Teacher Logeswari Murugan from SJK(T) Jalan Yahya Awal for Leave a Nest awards.
Tokens of appreciation were also presented to partners Focus Systems, Chumbaka, Pelangi Publishing, and ShazInnovation. In his closing remarks, Mr. Abdul Hakim Sahidi, Managing Director of Leave a Nest Malaysia, expressed gratitude to all participants and partners for their commitment to advancing education. He emphasized the crucial role of empowering educators to shape and refine the knowledge and skills of future generations, reinforcing their significance as the foundation of educational excellence.
