Leave a Nest Philippines Opens Applications for Science Castle Grant 2026

Leave a Nest Philippines, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, is once again launching the Science Castle Grant Philippines 2026 (Lockheed Martin Award). Following the successful implementation of last year’s program, applications are now officially open for junior and senior high school student research teams across the Philippines.

The Science Castle Grant is a research support program designed to nurture the next generation of scientists, researchers, and innovators in transforming their ideas into scientific innovations. The selected student teams  will receive research funding, mentorship opportunities, and the chance to present their work on a national event celebrating student-led research, the Science Castle Philippines. Centered on the spirit of exploration, creativity, and problem-solving, this year’s grant encourages students to develop research proposals related to sustainability, materials innovation, exploration technologies, detection systems, and human-machine collaboration.

In collaboration with Lockheed Martin, the grant program seeks research teams whose ideas align not only with Lockheed Martin’s areas of expertise, but also with the goal of developing innovative and impactful solutions that contribute positively to society. The main research themes for this year are as follows:

Research Theme Description
Environmental and Ecosystem Sustainability Research ways to protect and improve air, land, water, and ecosystem sustainability through innovative environmental solutions and technologies.
Materials, Structures, and Design Innovation Explore how advanced materials and engineering design enhance the strength, durability, safety, and sustainability of everyday systems and technologies.
Sustainable Exploration and Discovery Investigate safer and more sustainable ways to explore oceans, forests, remote environments, or space-related systems.
Sensing, Monitoring, and Detection Systems Explore technologies that help observe, detect, measure, and understand environments, structures, or changing conditions.
Human-Machine Collaboration
Study how humans and intelligent technologies can work together more effectively, safely, and efficiently.

The application period for this year’s grant will run from June 1 to June 30, 2026. Applicant screening will take place during the first half of July, followed by interviews and possible school visits for the top 10 shortlisted teams during the second half of July. The three (3) winning teams will be officially announced on July 31, 2026.

Selected teams will receive research funding support of up to PHP 15,000, along with monthly mentorship sessions from research and industry professionals who will guide them throughout the development of their projects. The mentorship period will run from August to December 2026, finally culminating in the presentation of their research projects at the Science Castle Philippines 2027, which will be held on January 23, 2027.

The program is open to teams of up to five (5) junior or senior high school students from schools in the Philippines. A teacher or adviser must serve as the team’s official representative during the application process. Proposed projects may either be entirely new ideas or continuations of existing research work. Students are encouraged to submit projects that demonstrate originality, scientific thinking, and the potential for positive societal impact.

Applications for the Science Castle Grant 2026 are now open. Interested schools and student teams are encouraged to review the application guidelines and submit their proposals before the official deadline.
