The Theme

The summit will highlight the theme of Unlocking the Power of Algae in Southeast Asia, featuring a keynote speech, panel discussions, poster presentations, and exhibits showcasing the latest research and technology in algae. The topics covered will include:

– Algae-based food and feed
– Algae-based biofuels and chemicals
– Algae-based pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals
– Algae cultivation and harvesting
– Algae-based wastewater treatment and bioremediation
– Algae-based carbon capture and utilization

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Microalgae: production, products and applications

Short Biography

Yusuf Chisti is a Distinguished Professor in the Institute of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia. Previously, he was Professor of Biochemical Engineering at Massey University, New Zealand. Professor Chisti holds a MSc (Biochemical Engineering) degree from University of London, England, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Waterloo, Canada. He is a Chartered Engineer, CEng, and Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (FIChemE), UK. His earlier appointments were with the University of Almería, Spain; Chembiomed Ltd, Edmonton, Canada; University of Waterloo, Canada; and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Nigeria. Professor Chisti has produced nearly 350 publications including a highly cited book (Airlift Bioreactors, Elsevier, 1989; 1200+ citations). His research publications have received more than 56,000 citations and his Hirsch-index is 90 (Google Scholar, June, 2024). He has lectured at nearly 200 conferences and other events worldwide. He sits on editorial boards of several major journals and key reference works. In 2006, Professor Chisti received a Doctor Honoris Causa degree from Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania, in recognition of his many contributions to chemical and biological engineering. In 2014, Canada’s University of Waterloo awarded him its Engineering Alumni Achievement medal in the Academic Excellence category. Professor Chisti has assisted companies, public organizations, and governments in nearly a dozen countries.
