This marked Leave a Nest’s first formal engagement in Taiwan in nearly eight years, following the TECH PLANTER in Taiwan seed acceleration program, which was actively run from 2014 to 2017. For more details on our past activities, please refer to the following:

The keynote session, held on the main stage on the final day of InnoVEX, was themed “Exploring the Future of Technology Through the Lens of ‘What's Next?' from Ventures' Perspective.” Dr. Takahashi was the final speaker among five invited guests. His presentation, titled “Dawn of Knowledge Manufacturing,” introduced the new concept of Knowledge Manufacturing—a framework developed through Leave a Nest’s longstanding vision of “Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness.”
Dr. Takahashi explained that Knowledge Manufacturing refers to the creation of new knowledge through the combination of existing knowledge, and the use of that new knowledge to solve previously intractable problems. The concept is grounded in Japan’s current need to transition from rapid economic growth to a mature-growth phase, and re-evaluate the value embedded in its industrial foundations. In particular, he emphasized the importance of Japan’s unique manufacturing expertise, especially the tacit knowledge and collaborative process known as suriawase.
He provided concrete examples of how superfactories such as Hamano Products have supported the early product development of deep-tech startups including Challenergy (winner of the first TECH PLANTER in 2014), OryLab, and WHILL. Dr. Takahashi also highlighted the role of Leave a Nest’s Science Bridge Communicators, professionals who specialize in translating scientific knowledge for broader society, as the key facilitators of these partnerships.
Noting the similarities between Japan and Taiwan—particularly their technological strengths and vibrant university-born startup ecosystems—Dr. Takahashi concluded his keynote by calling for regional collaboration across Asia to build a new industrial framework rooted in knowledge creation.
Although this was Leave a Nest’s first visit to Taiwan in several years, the trip opened up new possibilities through meetings with local universities and accelerators. We will continue to explore opportunities in education, research, talent development, and entrepreneurship in Taiwan.
