“Bridging Japan and the Philippines to Create Solutions for Forestry Issues via Drone Technology”
At the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference Kagawa Forum 2022, which is organized by Leave a Nest, we will be holding the Keynote Session, 「“Bridging Japan and the Philippines to Create Solutions for Forestry Issues via Drone Technology”.
Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Kagawa 2022
Japan has been dependent on overseas imports for lumber since its high economic growth period, and Japan is now the world's fourth largest importer of lumber. On the other hand, in the Philippines, a former supplier of timber, the forests that covered about 50% of the country around 1900 were reduced to only 18% in 1999, and how to regenerate the lost forests is now an issue.
In this presentation, we will invite Mr. Jay of Galansiyang, a drone afforestation startup that was established to solve forest issues in the Philippines, to discuss what kind of technology we can use and how we can collaborate in reforestation to achieve a sustainable world. We will think about this here in Kagawa, where rainfall is low and we know more about the importance of forests as a source of water than anywhere else.
Not limited to the theme of this session, we will have a program of discussions among researchers, start-ups, and large companies from various perspectives. For details, please refer to the conference website.

Dreaming of creating a technology company since he was 12 years old, he started raising funds for drone projects in high school and succeeded in building and flying his first DIY drone at the age of 16. After attending Mindanao State Iligan Institute of Technology, he founded a startup with a fellow thesis student. After graduating and working as a university researcher, he is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Galansiyang Inc.
