Leave a Nest Malaysia Successfully Hosted TECH VENTURE MEETUP MALAYSIA 2023 and the First ASEAN Deep Tech Venture of the Year Award

On 17th January 2023, Leave a Nest organised Tech Venture Meet Up (TVMU) 2023 at MRANTI Park, Kuala Lumpur. Our partners for this event are MRANTI, Japan Exchange Group, Aerodyne Group, Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) and Robopreneur. A total of 177 participants attended the event. The event started at 9:45 am and ended at about 3 pm 

The highlights of the event were a keynote speech by Mr. Kamarul A. Muhamed, Founder and Group CEO of Aerodyne Group followed by a plenary speech by Mr. Yasuyuki Konuma, Director, Executive Vice President, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. During the Keynote session, Mr. Kamarul shared 5 valuable tips on how to grow globally based on  their outstanding global expansion journey to more than 32 countries. The tips including Mr. Yasuyuki shared great news for Malaysian startups about the opportunity to be listed in Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Besides that. We also have our strong partners, MRANTI, GIST and Robopreneur to share about their valuable support and collaboration opportunities for the startups to scale up their business. Twelve potential investors attended the event to listen to the pitching sessions and browse products on display at the booth. A total of 51 startups, 8 angel investors, corporate venture capitalists and venture capitalists, 2 startup incubator accelerators, 2 stock exchangers and 4 universities attended the event. Eight startups had the opportunity to pitch their business in front of potential investors while 25 startups got to showcase their products at their booths. 


First Startup Pitch Session

UMORIE Graphene Technologies  

Aspiring EV startup to manufacture Li-ion batteries using Graphene nanotechnology. 

Aphelia

A deeptech space startup that builds wireless charging stations for satellite constellations in space.

TrackerHero

A technology firm which provides a platform that enables real-time oversight of physical security operations. 

LOOKA Group

Develops an Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system to monitor the activities of drones in the sky and a One Stop Centre for drone operators to apply drone flying permits.

Second Startup Pitch Session

Alphaswift Industries

Provides customized drones (UAV) and robotics design and development for industrial clients.

Qarbotech

Develops a biocompatible solution that increases the photosynthesis rate of leafy plants to shorten crop cycle and increase plant growth.

Ecologgie

Provides cultivation, production, development, and sales of food and feed using insect crickets.

WelNuts

A food Tech company manufacturing Malaysian Traditional and Halal Snack Food with minimal and natural cooking methods.

There were two panel discussions. The first panel discussion was entitled Scale Up Your Business: How to Approach & Close the Right Deal and the panellists for this panel discussion were Mr. Safuan Zairi, Chief Ecosystem Development Officer of MRANTI, Mr. Norazli Mohamad Nor, Investment Senior Vice President and Head of Strategic Initiatives of Xeraya Capital, Mr. Akira Ukaji, Vice President and General Manager of Liberaware, and Dr. Hanafiah Yussof, Founder & Group CEO of Robopreneur. The key takeaways from this session is that startups need to have a clear vision about their business goal and approach the funding at the right time.

The second panel discussion was entitled Right Deal and IPO: A Destination or a Spring Board towards Sustainability and the panellists for this panel discussion were Mr. Yasuyuki Konuma, Director, Executive Vice President of Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc, Mr. Kamarul Muhamed, Founder & Group CEO of Aerodyne, Mr. Farrish Ishak, Vice President of Listing Development Department of Bursa Malaysia, and Mr. Koon Yi Goon, Co-founder and CEO of TT Vision. From this session, experienced panelists shared about IPO is not only about getting the big money or exit but more than that, to expand the company to the next level and prepare it to be for public instead of private entity.

In the afternoon, Leave a Nest hosted its first ASEAN Deep Tech Venture of the Year award to acknowledge and celebrate outstanding deep-tech startups in Southeast Asia that solving deep issues and inspire other startups to challenge themselves to reach the next stage of their development. The winners of the awards are Aerodyne Group from Malaysia, NDR Medical Technology from Singapore, Wela School Systems from The Philippines, and Jala Tech from Indonesia.

The event ended with a networking lunch among the attendees.

Through the event, we hope we can support the creation of new steps for the startups to find potential partners to bring them to the next phase. Leave a Nest will be continuing various initiatives to enhance collaboration between startups and corporations for solving deep issues across the world.
