Deep Tech Venture of the Year 2027: Recognising Ventures Shaping Southeast Asia’s Future

Held in conjunction with Tech Venture Meetup Malaysia 2027, the award puts the spotlight on science and technology ventures addressing significant challenges and creating opportunities for industrial transformation.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Leave a Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. will spotlight Southeast Asia’s technology entrepreneurs through the Deep Tech Venture of the Year 2027, in conjunction with Tech Venture Meetup Malaysia (TVMU) 2027. The event will take place on 19 January 2027, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, under the theme “Beyond Scale: Building Ventures That Shape the Future.”

The award recognises the role of deep-tech ventures in translating scientific knowledge and technological capabilities into solutions for complex societal and industrial challenges. It brings attention to entrepreneurs whose work demonstrates how research can become a foundation for meaningful business development and lasting impact.

Recognising Deep Tech That Addresses Deep Issues

Leave a Nest established Deep Tech Venture of the Year to honour ventures tackling deeply rooted challenges through science and technology. Its first Southeast Asian award ceremony took place in Malaysia in January 2023, recognising entrepreneurs who could inspire the next generation of venture builders across the region.

Developing a deep-tech venture requires sustained effort to move from research and technical validation towards commercial application. Along that journey, entrepreneurs must establish industry relevance, build customer confidence, develop production capabilities, and secure the partnerships needed to bring their solutions into practical use.

Recognising these ventures helps make that journey visible. It also encourages corporations, investors, researchers, and public-sector stakeholders to consider how their expertise and resources can contribute to the next stage of technology development and adoption.

Beyond Scale: Connecting Venture Growth with Industrial Impact

TVMU 2027’s theme provides the context for this recognition. “Beyond Scale: Building Ventures That Shape the Future” encourages participants to explore how collaboration across technologies, industries, and countries can generate new business opportunities and broader industrial value.

For deep-tech entrepreneurs, growth involves more than reaching additional customers. It can also mean enabling manufacturers to adopt new processes, helping industries use resources more effectively, or creating applications that make previously inaccessible solutions commercially viable.

These outcomes depend on cooperation. A startup may contribute a specialised technology, while a corporate partner provides manufacturing expertise or access to customers. Researchers can support further development and validation, while investors and ecosystem organisations can help ventures navigate commercial expansion.

The award offers an opportunity to draw attention to these relationships and encourage participants to explore what they could build together.

Building on Southeast Asia’s Deep-Tech Progress

Previous editions have recognised ventures working across diverse technological fields. The 2026 recipients included DF Automation and Robotics from Malaysia, GaraSTEM from Vietnam, MUU from Thailand, and VFlowTech from Singapore, representing capabilities in industrial robotics, STEM education, precision fermentation, and energy storage.

Their recognition illustrates the breadth of innovation emerging from Southeast Asia and the different pathways through which technology ventures can contribute to economic and societal development.

The 2027 edition provides a further opportunity to bring attention to the region’s venture builders and strengthen conversations around the partnerships needed to advance their work.

Details of the 2027 award recipients and their technologies will be shared in a subsequent announcement.

An Invitation to Connect and Collaborate

Leave a Nest Malaysia invites corporations, investors, financial institutions, universities, research organisations, government agencies, and technology entrepreneurs to participate in TVMU 2027.

Participants are encouraged to approach the event with a practical collaboration question: What expertise, technology, resources, or market access could we bring together to create the next opportunity?

Organisations interested in partnership opportunities are also invited to engage with Leave a Nest Malaysia to discuss how they can contribute to technology commercialisation, venture development, and stronger regional innovation connections.

Join TVMU 2027 to discover emerging ventures, connect with potential collaborators, and explore how science and technology can help shape the industries of the future.
