From Science Castle to the Skies: Inspiring Young Innovators Through Rocket Science

[Cyberjaya, 26 November 2024]- Leave a Nest Malaysia hosted a dynamic Water Rocket Workshop today, 26 November 2024, engaging 240 enthusiastic high school students aged 13 to 14 from Tzu Chi International School, Kuala Lumpur  in an unforgettable learning experience. The workshop was divided into two sessions, with 120 students participating in the morning and the remaining students in the afternoon. This format ensured an interactive and hands-on experience for every participant.

The workshop aimed to achieve three key objectives:

a) To learn about the foundations of rocket science.

b) Hands-on rocket building and launching.

c) Teamwork and creative exploration.

This workshop held special significance for the students of Tzu Chi International School, particularly as one of their peers recently achieved a remarkable milestone by participating in Science Castle Asia 2024, where their team won the Best Poster Presentation Award. This achievement underscores the school’s commitment to fostering innovative young minds and highlights their potential as future leaders in STEM fields.

The Water Rocket Workshop is part of Leave a Nest Malaysia’s broader efforts to inspire students through engaging STEM education, ensuring they are equipped to tackle challenges of the future with knowledge and creativity.

Guided by these objectives, students delved into the principles of physics, particularly Newton's Third Law of Motion: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” They were given the opportunity to design, assemble, and launch their own water rockets, connecting theoretical knowledge with practical application.

Teachers from Tzu Chi International School, who accompanied the students, expressed their appreciation for the program. One teacher remarked, “The workshop provided an excellent platform for students to connect theoretical concepts with practical experience. We are excited about the opportunity for more collaborations with Leave a Nest Malaysia in the future.”

Leave a Nest Malaysia is proud of the success of this workshop, which not only deepened the students’ understanding of physics but also fostered curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. These STEM-focused programs are at the heart of our mission to inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and leaders.
