Leave a Nest Malaysia Launches SCENT 2025 Program in Collaboration with SDEC’s “TechFrontier Explorer” and Swinburne Sarawak to Foster Deep-Tech Entrepreneurship

Kuching, Sarawak – Leave a Nest Malaysia, in strategic collaboration with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, successfully launched the the first “TechFrontier Explorer” and “Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Training (SCENT)” programs in Borneo on 21st June 2025, aimed at empowering the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs in science and technology.

The launching ceremony marked the official commencement of a transformative learning journey designed for aspiring technopreneurs, especially young researchers and students. The ceremony was opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Joel Than Chia Ming, Head of Department, Master of Information Technology & Software Engineering at Swinburne Sarawak, followed by opening remarks from Nur Ahmad Zaim Hussin, Director of Leave a Nest Malaysia. The event also featured a special address by Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman, the Chief Executive Officer of SDEC, who reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to digital empowerment and innovation.

The integrated program—“TechFrontier Explorer and Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Training (TFExSCENT)”—represents a synergistic collaboration between SDEC and Leave a Nest Malaysia, combining strengths in entrepreneurship training and deep-tech development. This initiative aims to develop young technopreneurs through knowledge transfer, real-world problem-solving, and exposure to entrepreneurial ecosystems. The program seeks to enhance local talent involvement in technology-based innovation and startup creation.

As the lead organiser of SCENT, Leave a Nest Malaysia reaffirmed its mission to build a sustainable deep-tech ecosystem by nurturing human capital and translating scientific knowledge into impactful innovations. The SCENT program provides participants with essential tools, frameworks, and mindsets to approach societal challenges through science-based entrepreneurship.

SDEC, the organiser of TechFrontier Explorer, underscored its vision to strengthen Sarawak’s digital innovation pipeline by nurturing talent and empowering youth to explore technology frontiers. Their collaboration in this initiative reflects the importance of multisector partnerships in developing a robust, tech-driven economy.

Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, serving as the academic host, welcomed the participants and expressed its support for the integration of academic excellence with entrepreneurial experience. The university will host the full 7-module SCENT training program, designed to provide experiential learning grounded in science and real-world relevance.

The launch event also featured a program overview, networking sessions, and the delivery of Module 1: QPMI (Question–Passion–Members–Innovation) cycle — a cornerstone of the SCENT methodology that instills a socially conscious, problem-solving, entrepreneurial mindset. This module marks the beginning of an intensive 2-month journey for participants, one that aims to spark the emergence of a new wave of Technopreneurs in Sarawak.

TFExSCENT is a joint initiative combining SDEC’s TechFrontier Explorer and Leave a Nest’s Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Training (SCENT). The program empowers youth and early-career researchers with entrepreneurial thinking, innovation strategies, and leadership capabilities to build impactful solutions for real-world problems.
