Tech-Garage Seminar Vol. V Champions Robotic Facility Management for a Better Sarawak

Kuching, 1 August 2025 – The fifth edition of the Tech-Garage Seminar Series, themed “Robotic Facility Management for a Better Sarawak”, was successfully held at Makeramai Makerspace, Balai Rong, Pearl Street, Kuching. The session ran from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and gathered around 53 participants, including representatives from government agencies, academia, startups, and facility management professionals.
The seminar began with a welcoming remark by Mr. Khairul from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), who emphasized the importance of empowering Sarawak's digital future through practical innovation. This was followed by an opening remark from Dr. Hadi Akbar, the project leader of Tech-Garage Vol. V and a representative of Leave a Nest Malaysia, who introduced the vision of Tech-Garage as a platform that bridges robotics technology with real operational needs in Malaysia.
A highlight of the event was the keynote session by Dr. Hanafiah from Robopreneur Sdn. Bhd., who spoke about the growing opportunities in robotic facility management, including how robotics can address workforce shortages and improve safety and efficiency in building operations. Notably, Dr. Hanafiah also introduced Robopreneur’s second-hand robotics marketplace platform, which provides access to affordable robotic solutions for organizations looking to adopt automation with budget flexibility. He highlighted this as a vital enabler for small businesses and public sector adoption.
Participants then engaged in a live online demonstration of the Ugo robot, a Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) solution designed for security and inspection tasks. The demo showcased Ugo’s autonomous navigation, sensor integration, and potential for facility applications across various sectors.
Following the demo, a roundtable discussion was held among attendees to identify local operational challenges in Sarawak’s facility landscape and explore how robotics—particularly through adaptable platforms like Ugo—could be used to address them. The event concluded with a photo session and networking opportunity, allowing participants to exchange ideas and build collaborative connections.
Tech-Garage continues to serve as a vital platform for connecting deep-tech solutions with regional challenges, and this edition marked a step forward in Sarawak’s journey toward smarter, tech-enabled facility management.
