TECH GARAGE Seminar Vol. 9 Showcases Cutting-Edge Sensing Technologies and Cross-Border Innovation

Leave a Nest successfully hosted the TECH GARAGE Seminar (TGS) Vol. 9, powered by CAST Inc. and organized in collaboration with Kobata Gauge Mfg. Co., Ltd. and Beyond Horizon Technologies Sdn. Bhd. The seminar took place at the Center of Garage Malaysia, Cyberjaya, gathering participants from both industry and academia across Japan, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The event focused on innovative sensing technologies that enhance industrial safety and productivity, while also promoting cross-border collaboration between Japan and Southeast Asia. Highlights included a live Q&A session with technology leaders, technology demonstrations, and networking opportunities with peers in the deep tech ecosystem.
The seminar began with opening remarks by Ms. Aisyah Abdul Hamid, Assistant Manager of the Frontier Development Division, Leave a Nest Malaysia, followed by the Global South Project Introduction by Dr. Takumi Jindo, Research Development Division, Leave a Nest Japan. Dr. Jindo shared the history of the TECH GARAGE Seminar, highlighting TGS Vol. 1, initiated in partnership with CAST and featuring Beyond Horizon (BH) as a guest partner. The session included live demonstrations, an MoU signing announcement between BH and CAST, and plans to introduce novel sensor technology in Malaysia, recognized by METI 2025. He also shared that CAST recently secured funding from Japan’s national budget to expand its R&D efforts, and announced the upcoming first TGS Vol. 1 in Indonesia.
The first presentation was led by Dr. Kei Nakatsuma, CEO of CAST Inc., and Mr. Daichi Saito, Director of Business Development. Dr. Kei introduced CAST’s journey since its founding in 2019 and its mission to translate physical phenomena into digital data for global safety applications. He presented Ultrack, an advanced pipe-thinning monitoring system that leverages ultrasonic and IoT technologies to enable remote and efficient infrastructure monitoring. Featuring a high-temperature-resistant, flexible, and thin piezoelectric ceramic sensor (UT thickness probe), Ultrack helps prevent industrial accidents by detecting corrosion in harsh environments. The team demonstrated Ultrack’s capabilities and shared plans for future releases.
The second presentation by Mr. Yukihiro Ishida, Director of Kobata Gauge Mfg. Co., Ltd., introduced Salta®, a retrofit IoT sensor unit that transforms traditional analog pressure gauges into smart IoT devices for remote monitoring and digital maintenance. As part of Japan’s Superfactory Group, Kobata Gauge showcased how Salta enables cost-effective Industry 4.0 upgrades, bridging the gap between legacy equipment and modern data-driven operations.
The final session, presented by Ts. Mohamad Fadzly Bin Mohamad Khalil, CEO and Founder of Beyond Horizon Technologies, addressed the challenges of aging industrial assets and inefficient inspection processes. He introduced the company’s collaboration with CAST, integrating BH’s drone technology (“the eye”) with CAST’s sensor system (“the ear”) to generate interactive 3D digital twins of industrial sites. This integrated smart asset ecosystem enhances safety, speeds up decision-making, and reduces operational costs.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Nur Ahmad Zaim Hussin, Director of Leave a Nest Malaysia, who introduced the upcoming TGS in Indonesia. He emphasized Leave a Nest’s ongoing collaboration with partners across Southeast Asia to empower deep tech startups and encouraged participants to continue building cross-border networks that drive sustainable innovation.
This successful seminar underscored Leave a Nest’s role in advancing the regional startup ecosystem, promoting international cooperation, and addressing industrial and environmental challenges through deep tech innovation.
The next TECH GARAGE Seminar Vol. 1 in Indonesia will be held on 18 November 2025. Industry players, researchers, and startups are invited to join this exciting initiative.
