Global Algae Summit 2026 Returns to Explore the Next Frontier of Innovation, Value Creation and Sustainable Impact

Global Algae Summit 2026 Returns to Explore the Next Frontier of Innovation, Value Creation and Sustainable Impact

The Global Algae Summit (GAS) 2026 returns on 19 August 2026 at Sunway University, bringing together leading researchers, innovators, industry players, policymakers, investors, and sustainability advocates from around the world to explore the growing role of algae in shaping a more sustainable future.

Organised by Leave a Nest Malaysia and co-organise with Euglena Co., Ltd., and Sunway University, the summit will be held under the theme:

“The Algae Frontier: Innovation Catalysing Value Chains and Impact”

The theme reflects a pivotal moment for the global algae sector. While scientific advances have unlocked unprecedented opportunities across food systems, renewable energy, carbon management, environmental remediation, and sustainable materials, the next challenge lies in translating these innovations into scalable solutions that generate meaningful economic, environmental, and social impact.

From Innovation to Impact

Algae is increasingly recognised as one of the world's most versatile biological resources. Its applications extend across multiple sectors, from food, feed, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals to biofuels, carbon capture technologies, wastewater treatment and circular bio-economy solutions.

However, the future of algae depends on more than scientific discovery alone. The true measure of innovation is not simply what is discovered in the laboratory, but how effectively those discoveries can be translated into solutions that benefit industries, communities, and the environment,

Over the past decade, breakthroughs in algae cultivation, biotechnology, processing technologies, and product development have accelerated rapidly. Yet many promising technologies remain at pilot scale. To realise the full potential of algae, stronger collaboration is needed across the value chain—from research and development to production, processing, commercialisation, policy support, investment, and market adoption.

Strengthening the Algae Value Chain

A key focus of the summit will be strengthening connections across the algae ecosystem to accelerate innovation adoption and industry growth.

Discussions will explore how stakeholders can work together across five critical stages of the algae value chain:

  • Research and Innovation
  • Cultivation and Production
  • Processing and Technology Development
  • Marketing and Distribution
  • End Markets and Consumers

By strengthening these linkages, the algae sector can create broader impact through:

  • Economic growth and new green industries
  • Environmental sustainability and climate resilience
  • Improved social well-being
  • Enhanced food and energy security
  • Development of a circular bio-economy

A Platform for Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

Global Algae Summit 2026 aims to serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration among academia, industry, government agencies, investors, startups, and civil society.

Participants will gain insights into emerging technologies, market opportunities, regulatory developments, and innovative business models shaping the future of the algae economy.

The summit also seeks to foster strategic partnerships that can accelerate the deployment of algae-based solutions to address global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, sustainable food production, and the transition toward a low-carbon future.

Call for Researchers and Poster Presenters

Researchers, students, innovators, and industry professionals are invited to submit posters and share their work in areas including:

  • Algae Cultivation and Production Technologies
  • Biofuels and Bio-products
  • Food, Feed and Nutraceuticals
  • Carbon Capture and Environmental Solutions
  • Circular Bio-economy and Carbon Markets

Why Participate?

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Showcase research and innovations to a global audience
  • Engage with industry leaders and subject matter experts
  • Explore collaborative research and commercial opportunities
  • Gain insights into emerging trends and market developments
