Global Algae Summit 2026 Concludes with Strong Momentum for Algae Innovation and Collaboration

The Global Algae Summit (GAS) 2026 successfully concluded on 19 August 2026 at Sunway University, bringing together researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, students and ecosystem partners to explore the growing potential of algae in addressing sustainability challenges and creating new economic value.

Organised by Leave a Nest under the theme “The Algae Frontier: Catalysing Value and Impact,” GAS 2026 provided a platform for participants from diverse sectors to exchange knowledge, showcase research and technologies, and identify opportunities for collaboration across the algae ecosystem.

Throughout the summit, discussions highlighted the expanding role of algae beyond conventional applications, including its potential in carbon capture and utilisation, circular economy solutions, sustainable bio-products, food, agriculture, environmental remediation and green industrial applications.

A key focus of GAS 2026 was bridging the gap between scientific advancement and real-world implementation. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, technology and research sharing, poster presentations and networking sessions, participants examined what is needed to move algae-based solutions from laboratories and pilot projects towards greater commercialisation and societal impact.
The summit also created opportunities for researchers and young talents to share their work with a wider audience. A total of 62 poster presenters participated in GAS 2026, reflecting growing research interest and the emergence of new ideas within the algae community.
Building an Ecosystem Beyond the Summit
GAS 2026 placed strong emphasis on collaboration across disciplines and sectors. Researchers, universities, corporations, entrepreneurs and sustainability stakeholders came together not only to discuss technological possibilities, but also to understand the scientific, commercial and ecosystem challenges that must be addressed collectively.
The strong participation and positive feedback received from speakers, participants and partners demonstrated the growing interest in developing a stronger algae innovation ecosystem.
For Leave a Nest, the Global Algae Summit represents more than a one-day gathering. It serves as a platform to connect knowledge, technology, people and resources that can contribute towards translating algae research into solutions with meaningful environmental, economic and societal value.

The success of GAS 2026 was made possible through the commitment of its co-organisers, supporting partners, strategic partners, speakers, panellists, moderators, poster presenters, exhibitors, participants, organising committee and volunteers.
Leave a Nest extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed their knowledge, time and support towards making the summit possible.
While GAS 2026 has concluded, the collaborations and conversations initiated during the summit are expected to continue beyond the event, creating new opportunities for research, technology development, business creation and cross-sector partnerships.
The algae frontier continues — from knowledge to collaboration, and from potential to impact.
