Manufacturing is one of the core sectors that drives the economy of Vietnam. In 2023, industry and construction contributed 36.62% to Vietnam's GDP, and the country aims to have the manufacturing sector contribute to 30% of its GDP by 2030, where 45% would be technological products. Vietnam has been experiencing this boom in manufacturing for years, and is still expected to be a critical high-growth sector in the years to come.
With the growth of this sector however, other factors also need to be taken into consideration, including the safety and welfare of workers, environmental implications, and even making sure that industrial products that reach the market are not counterfeits.
In the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Vietnam 2024, we will be holding a panel session entitled “Crafting Innovation: The Many Facets Surrounding Manufacturing and Industry”. This session takes a look at different perspectives surrounding the manufacturing and industry sectors, to make sure that this sector will be sustainable for years to come.
Participants will be able to understand the mindset and stories behind the creation of technologies linked to the manufacturing industry, and will understand what is needed to create such unique innovations that will be able to tackle the challenges surrounding manufacturing in their country – so that they can also probably create one of their own that can supplement existing ones.

Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quan, from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, is the DeepSignature Company’s founder and CEO, specializing in industrial manufacturing processes design. Dr. Quan has 50+ articles published in reputable international ISI journals. Academic rewards in his career include the 2008 Outstanding Research Achievement and the 2008 Excellence in Academic Performance from Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). His notable victories include the 2020 Tech Planter Vietnam Special Prize, 2020 Tech Planter Asia-Pacific First Prize, the 2021 Asian Entrepreneur Award Third Prize, the 3rd Prizes of VNExpress Creative Scientific Innovations. In his mentorship role, Dr. Quan has guided numerous startups to secure multiple awards, both domestically and internationally, between 2019 and 2023. |

Dr. Vo Thanh Hang Dr. Vo Thanh Hang is currently a lecturer/ researcher of Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources (FENR), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. She received her Ph.D. at Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea. Her research interests include: Acid fermentation and methane production (CH4) in wastewater treatment process, Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change for Water Resources Management, Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) and Waste Management. Besides this, Dr. Hang is the Chairwoman of Bach Khoa Green Innovation Club (BKGI), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, where she helps HCMUT’s students for research and start-up activities. She is also a mentor of Global Mentoring Program for V-Startups 2021 (part of the National Innovation Initiative to 2025-ISEV) which aims to create a favorable environment to promote and support the formation and development of enterprises. She coordinates the Engineering Project in Community Services (EPICS 4 & 5) program under BUILD-IT Project. She conducts the activities of Undergraduate Research Initiative (URI) program at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. |

Rafael Masters Rafael is the CEO of Vulcan Augmetics, a Vietnam based startup building biosignal sensor technology for assistive devices, starting with prosthetics. In developing and growing his company Rafael has been involved with the regional startup and medtech scene for the last 5 years and approaches the topic from both a founders perspective and a wider systemic view. |

MODERATOR: YEVGENY ASTER T. DULLA, PhD Yev was born and raised in Iloilo City, Philippines. He graduated with a degree in BS Chemistry from the University of the Philippines – Visayas, after which he worked as an instructor at the University of the Philippines – Manila. He came to Japan in 2013 to pursue graduate studies through the HIGO Program of Kumamoto University, and acquired his Masters in Health Life Sciences in 2015 and his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2018. He worked at a business consultancy company in Tokyo in 2019 to help bring biotechnology and medical companies from abroad into Japan. In 2020, he joined Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. and is currently under the Frontier Development Division. He is also a Balik Scientist Awardee for 2021. In the same year, he co-founded the Leave a Nest Philippines office and is its current Managing Director. |
