“Science Bridge Communicator – Changes the Way of Business” New English Edition Now Available to Empower Global Entrepreneurs – Redefining Innovation Through the QPMI Cycle

June 2025, Singapore – With strong intention to reshape how Science and Society connects, Leave a Nest Publishing & Leave a Nest Singapore jointly announces the release of the 2nd edition of Science Bridge Communicator – Changes the Way of Business in English. A significant update to the original 2018 translated publication that inspired a generation of researchers, entrepreneurs, and educators overseas. Known colloquially as the “QPMI book” or “The Black Book,” this new edition reflects on over a decade of evolution and social experimentation by the Leave a Nest Group, presenting an updated framework for creating innovation through knowledge platforms.
“Every person who picks up this book, whether a school student or a startup founder, will find a spark—an invitation to think deeply about how their curiosity can become a contribution,” said Dr. Tokue, Managing Director of Leave a Nest Singapore and editor of the new edition.
Founded in December 2002 by fifteen graduate and undergraduate students committed to tackling Japan’s challenges of declining interest in science, Leave a Nest launched a Science Bridge Communicator (from hereafter SBC) program rooted in real-world application. Since 2010, Leave a Nest initiatives have expanded beyond Japan into Southeast Asia, US and UK. Subsidiaries have been established in Singapore 2010, Malaysia 2013 and the Philippines by 2021. With Leave a Nest expansion, SBC training has now also expanded to Southeast Asia. The organization has spearheaded more than 200 projects annually, continuously evolving a unique methodology that converts Questions and Passion into missions and ultimately into innovations—a process known as the QPMI cycle.
“This is more than a book. It’s a strategic alignment of vocabulary, mindset, and mission across borders,” remarked Dr. Yukihiro Maru, Founder and Group CEO of Leave a Nest. “When we say ‘Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness', this is how we do it—by making sure our ideas travel, connect, and take root in every culture.”
This second edition chronicles how the QPMI cycle has been applied across Leave a Nest's ventures over the past ten years, with new chapters illustrating how individuals and teams sparked world-changing ideas from deeply personal passion. Readers will encounter stories of collaborations that led to new science education with workshops, sustainable plant factory innovations, euglena, and the launch of deep-tech platforms such as TECH PLANTER, which has grown into Asia’s largest ecosystem for deep-tech startups. As of April 2024, TECH PLANTER platform has over 1,600 overseas teams and 2,500 Japanese have joined this movement.
In order to create the 0 to 1 mentioned above, we need to have a deeper understanding of how to combine and turn individual passion into new value/business based on QPMI. This process of applying QPMI cycle is important. This book redefines the concept—not as solitary independence, but as the capacity for passionate individuals to ignite catalytic collaborations. Grounded in Science, driven by curiosity, and framed by the realities of interdisciplinary communication, this book serves as a guide for anyone aiming to initiate meaningful change—be it a student, entrepreneur, or corporate leader.
As Leave a Nest Singapore celebrates 15 years, and 23 years since Leave a Nest founding in Japan, this publication recommits the company to its core vision: Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness. Through this book, Leave a Nest aims to pass on its methods and philosophy to the next generation of visionary leaders around the world.
