ARK Inc and Leave a Nest UK Launch Landmark Land-Based Seafood Summit in London

Food-tech startup ARK Inc and Leave a Nest UK are teaming up to host the Land-Based Seafood Summit in London.
The Land-Based Seafood Summit will bring together Japanese and UK aquaculture experts, the UK’s wholesale and retail fish industry as well as restaurateurs and representatives from the UK Government.
Japanese food-tech startup ARK Inc (Headquarters: Kanagawa, Japan, hereinafter referred to as “ARK”) has been supported by Leave a Nest to set up a new facility in Wedmore St in Islington, north London – the first of its kind in the UK – bringing this aquaculture technology from Japan to grow seafood there.
Bringing these parties together to showcase the Japanese technology in the new facility in London will kick-start the market-creation process for this completely new way of producing seafood.
ARK believed in letting the oceans rest, so worked with Japanese university professors to grow prawns and fish on land. This means they’re not destroying habitats or using air-freight to ship heavy blocks of ice containing seafood all around the world, to feed our insatiable appetite for fish.
ARK teamed up with academics from The University of the Ryukyu (Okinawa, Japan) to develop an automated aquaculture system to grow prawns and fish near where it’s being consumed. This technology will be showcased during the summit.
UK Director for Leave a Nest, Japanophile and self-confessed foodie, Jack Wratten, commented:
“Having eaten sushi made with seafood farmed on land in Japan, I cannot wait to be doing the same here in London! The world needs to develop new technology like this to feed our apatite for sustainable seafood, and it’s a pleasure to see it arrive in the UK”
