From Ideas to Impact: A 3-Day Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Universiti Teknologi Sarawak Students

Sibu, Mac 2026- Leave a Nest Malaysia recently concluded the TechFrontier Explorer (TFE) x Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Training (SCENT) Bootcamp at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), bringing together science and technology students to explore how research and technology can be translated into real societal impact. The customised programme introduces participants to Japanese startup and business concepts, focusing on transforming research and technology into solutions that benefit society. Through a structured journey of bootcamp training, mentoring, pitching, and Demo Day, students gain exposure to founder mindset, market realities, and practical business thinking.
Day 1: Building the Foundation
The bootcamp began with an ice-breaking session followed by the QPMI Canvas and Problem–Solution Fit modules, guiding participants to articulate their company problem statements and develop their mission, market size, and value proposition. Participants also gained insights through Founder Sharing sessions, where startup founders shared their journeys and lessons learned in building companies.
Day 2: From Ideas to Prototypes
Day two focused on transforming ideas into structured solutions. Through the Monozukuri and Prototyping Development module, students explored the different phases of prototyping and the importance of disciplined iteration in innovation development. Teams also worked on their Project Roadmaps, developing Gantt charts and identifying key phases of their projects. Representatives from Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) also shared valuable insights on available channels and initiatives supporting startup development within the Sarawak innovation ecosystem.
Day 3: Preparing for Market
The final day introduced participants to Go-to-Market Strategy, Finance & Funding Strategy, and Pitch Perfect sessions. Students presented their ideas and received valuable feedback from panels to refine their customer segments, market positioning, and solution validation strategies.
With the bootcamp completed, participating teams will now enter the mentoring stage, where industry mentors will guide them in refining their prototypes and business strategies. This phase will prepare the teams for the upcoming Pre-Demo Day before they present their innovations at the final Demo Day.
