[Leave a Nest 20th Anniversary Project・Part 8] “Leave a Nest Scholarship” to Promote Diverse Learning Launched in Japan and the Philippines: Awarded 4 Scholarships

Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Founder & Group CEO Dr. Yukihiro Maru; hereinafter referred to as “Leave a Nest”) has decided to launch the “Leave a Nest Scholarship” in Japan and the Philippines in April 2022 to encourage diverse learning among students, by awarding a total of four scholarships to two students in each country during fiscal year 2022. We are aiming to use this initiative as an opportunity to solve learning issues in each country and to provide an environment in which the scholarship recipients can grow as leaders who contribute to the global community.

Background of the Scholarship

The Leave a Nest Scholarship is a scholarship program designed to promote diverse learning and career development among bachelor’s and master’s degree students.

Currently in Japan, students are presented with few opportunities and support to challenge themselves outside of the stipulated programs offered by universities and graduate schools. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to increase the number of environments that open up diverse careers by encouraging students to create their own opportunity by asking questions, learning, and diving into them. That is why we have established a scholarship program that can be used for a wide range of student challenges. We believe that by supporting and fostering human resources who carve their own career opportunities for success while utilizing the Leave a Nest platform, we can nurture leaders for the coming era and shape role models who can contribute to the diversification of learning in Japan.

On the other hand, in the Philippines, where Leave a Nest has established a subsidiary, there has been a steady outflow of talented, high-level human resources to other countries, making it difficult for specialized knowledge to take root in the country. Especially in the field of science and engineering, there is no end to the number of students studying at graduate schools outside the country due to the abundance of employment opportunities available afterwards. Therefore, we have decided to establish a scholarship program in the Philippines that allow students to enter graduate school in their home country and then join Leave a Nest Philippines. We will support and nurture human resources who will obtain a degree in their own country and work to solve issues in the Philippines by utilizing their expertise, as role models for future leaders in Southeast Asia.

Announcement of the Scholarship Winners

Japan

The following two recipients of the Leave a Nest Scholarship in Japan have completed the Leave a Nest University Pre-Opening Phase program for the academic year 2021 with outstanding academic results.

Norika Narimatsu
Minerva University, 3rd year undergraduate student

Thank you very much for awarding the Leave a Nest Scholarship to me. At Leave a Nest University, which I attended last year as a 0th year student, I was able to learn in a practical way how to research issues based on my own passion and how to assemble knowledge, people, and technology to solve those issues. During the course, I reflected on my experience in research activities during middle and high school, and reconfirmed my strong passion in “realizing a society in which the value of basic research by researchers is widely recognized”. Now, based on my knowledge of data science and economics, which I am studying at university, I will continue to take on the challenge of optimizing the distribution of research funds and identifying biases hidden in the adoption of grants, while traveling around the world.

Leo Adachi
Tokyo Institute of Technology, 1st year doctoral student

At Leave a Nest University I learned about Deep Issues, Deep Tech, and Science Bridge Communication, and had the opportunity to have discussions with people who are actually running ventures. I feel once again that it is necessary to take small, detailed steps forward, and I would like to continue to meet people from different fields and learn with them through the student organization that I run and the essay introduction meetings that I continue to hold with fellow students of Leave a Nest University.

Philippines

The Leave a Nest Scholarship in the Philippines was awarded to the following two Leave a Nest Philippines employees who intend to pursue graduate studies.

I would like to thank Leave a Nest for this award and opportunity given to me. My ultimate goal is to “Improve the inclusivity of underserved sectors of society through the promotion and development of science and technology of our country”. The “L Grant Scholarship” will surely give me the opportunity to gain the expertise needed in order to fulfill this mission I set myself to do.
