ISAT-U Deepens Role in Innovation as the Official Co-Organizer of HIC 2025 Iloilo Forum
Iloilo City – The Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) is once again joining forces with Leave a Nest Philippines, this time as a co-organizer for the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) 2025 Iloilo Forum. This event marks another step forward in a growing partnership aimed at strengthening innovation and deep tech development in the Visayas region.
Set to happen on September 12, 2025, the HIC 2025 Iloilo Forum will gather local researchers, students, startups, and professionals under the theme “Knowledge Manufacturing the Intersection of Research Horizons in the Visayas.” The forum is designed to create a space where people from different disciplines can come together to share insights, collaborate on ideas, and align their research efforts to address regional needs particularly in agriculture, marine science, food technology, medicine, and natural resources.
This upcoming event builds on a productive history between the two institutions. Since 2021, ISAT-U and Leave a Nest Philippines have worked side-by-side on various programs, including the recently held Visayas TECH PLANTER 2024, which connected early-stage startups with mentors, investors, and fellow innovators.
Kwadra Technology Business Incubator:
A big part of this innovation push is Kwadra Technology Business Incubator (Kwadra-TBI), which ISAT-U launched in 2021 with support from DOST-PCIEERD. Kwadra has become an important space for early-stage startups in Iloilo, offering co-working facilities, mentorship, access to funding, and technical support. The incubator’s name — Kwadra in Hiligaynon means “toril”. In English it means stable or barn – nurtures creative science & tech entrepreneurs in an innovative environment and— reflects its mission to help young innovators structure their ideas into real-world solutions.
Kwadra-TBI works closely with Leave a Nest Philippines on programs that support the implementation of deep technologies into society. Together, they’ve introduced startup founders and researchers to Japanese innovation methods and even brought representatives to Japan for exposure to global best practices. These experiences have helped shape a stronger startup mindset within the university and the local community – and this has most likely contributed to Iloilo being recognized as one of the top 5 startup ecosystems in the Philippines according to the 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem Index.
With events like HIC 2025 Iloilo Forum and continued startup support through Kwadra-TBI, both ISAT-U and Leave a Nest Philippines are working to create more opportunities for researchers and entrepreneurs in the region. Their shared goal is clear: to build a more connected, sustainable innovation ecosystem that puts science and technology at the center of regional development.
