Discover the World You Can’t See: Call for Applications for the Ki Ni Naru Project 2026

The Ki Ni Naru Project is opening its doors once again, inviting young and curious minds to take part in a research journey that turns wonder into discovery.
Organized by Leave a Nest Philippines, the Ki Ni Naru Project 2026 carries the theme “The World You Can’t See,” encouraging high school students to explore the hidden, overlooked, and unseen parts of the world through science. From things too small to notice and forces working quietly around us to questions that spark deeper investigation, this year’s theme challenges students to look beyond what is immediately visible and uncover new ideas through curiosity-driven research.
The Core of Ki Ni Naru Project
Inspired by the Japanese phrase “Ki Ni Naru” (気になる), which means “to be curious” or “to want to know,” the program is designed to develop high school students’ scientific thinking skills through guided research training and exploration. Whether students already have experience in research or are just beginning to ask how and why things work, The Ki Ni Naru Project provides an opportunity for them to build confidence, creativity, and a stronger appreciation for science.
With this year’s theme, “The World You Can’t See,” Ki Ni Naru invites students to step into the unseen, uncover hidden wonders, and begin their journey as the next generation of thinkers, problem-solvers, and innovators.
This Year's Implementation
From October 2026 to February 2027, participating students will go through a 5-month research training program that includes curiosity-led investigation, learning modules, a hands-on kickoff workshop, an educational tour, mentorship, and presentation opportunities. Through these activities, students will be guided in forming questions, developing research ideas, conducting explorations, and communicating their findings.
For only PHP 9,000 per team of 5 student researchers, participants will be able to experience a guided research journey that supports both learning and discovery. More than just a training program, the Ki Ni Naru Project aims to build a community of young researchers who are eager to observe, question, investigate, and create.
The program is open to junior and senior high school student researchers, especially those who are ready to explore science through curiosity and teamwork. Students do not need to have all the answers before joining, only the willingness to ask meaningful questions and the determination to discover more about the world around them.
