Exploring the Realm of Robotics with Leave a Nest and ugo!

Waseda Shibuya High School Students Explore the Realm of Robotics with Leave a Nest Singapore and ugo Inc.

On 18 November 2025, 29 students aged 16 to 17 from Waseda Shibuya High School in Singapore participated in the “Exploring the Realm of Robotics” science workshop, organized by Leave a Nest Singapore in collaboration with ugo Inc., a Japanese robotics startup known for its inspection and security robots.

The session began with Workshop Leader Ayu introducing students to the world of robotics and presenting their mission for the day: to explore and experiment with ways to make a line-following robot work. To guide their approach, students were introduced to a key problem-solving mindset: “Experiencing First-Hand, Driven by Exploration.”

Eager to take on the challenge, the students conducted a series of hands-on experiments to understand how the robot’s logic and sensors functioned. They learned how to fine-tune infrared sensors both through coding and physical adjustments, testing and refining their robots’ ability to follow a circuit. Using code to change direction and control speed, students competed to see whose robot could complete the circuit fastest.

The excitement continued as students were introduced to ugo mini, the smallest robot developed by ugo Inc. They experienced firsthand how advanced features such as extendable height, dual normal and thermal cameras, and lidar technology are applied in real-world inspection tasks. From a simple line-following robot to a sophisticated DX (Digital Transformation) robot, students discovered how fundamental robotics principles scale across different applications.

Leave a Nest Singapore extends its gratitude to ugo Inc. for partnering in this engaging and educational workshop. We look forward to hosting more editions of “Exploring the Realm of Robotics” in the near future; stay tuned for upcoming announcements!
