[20th Anniversary Project – 2] Joint Development of Educational Programs in Southeast Asia with Local EdTech Ventures Companies: Aiming to Provide Educational Opportunities to a Total of 200,000 People in Southeast Asia by 2030

Leave a Nest (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; Founder & Group CEO Dr. Yukihiro Maru) together with its subsidiaries Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc. (Head Office: Manila, Philippines; Representative Director: Dr. Yevgeny Aster Dulla) and Leave a Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Head Office: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Representative Director: Mr. Abdul Hakim Sahidi), have entered into a partnership with leading local EdTech venture companies Wela Online Corp. (Philippines, hereinafter Wela) and My Conceptual Robotics Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia, hereinafter MyCRO) to develop original educational programs for local middle and high school students.

With Wela we have developed the “Ki_ni_naru” program to study science concepts and methodologies, while with MyCRO we have developed the “Drone Educosystem” program to systematically study engineering concepts. Both programs began in February 2022.

“Drone Educosystem” Project: https://global.lne.st/2022edumy/

This initiative will be an opportunity for us to focus on local educational activities and spread the NEST Education advocated by Leave a Nest around the world.

Development Background and Objectives of the Programs

WELA provides an educational platform that reduces the ever-increasing burden on teachers and parents in the Philippines, where the population continues to grow. On the other hand, MyCRO advocates the need for children’s engineering education in order to implement Malaysia's national policy ‘Industry 4WRD’. Through ongoing communication with both Wela and MyCRO, Leave a Nest has come to the conclusion that a cooperative relationship with local EdTech venture companies is essential to solving educational issues in Southeast Asia.

To date, Leave a Nest Group has provided educational programs to a total of more than 2,000 students in Southeast Asia. In response to the local issues that have become clearer through these collaborations, Leave a Nest will continue to provide its unique on-demand and event-based content, aiming to reach 20,000 students by 2030: ten times the current number. In addition, Leave a Nest has been providing educational programs to students in Japan for 20 years since its establishment, so by combining its expertise with platforms of EdTech venture companies, we aim to build an even larger platform to connect online with over 200,000 students in Southeast Asia.

Details of the Programs

The program offered in the Philippines: Ki_ni_naru Project

Program Overview:
In the Philippines, there is a lack of education that would encourage students to develop their curiosity without being limited by school subjects and disciplines. The Ki_ni_naru Project is a 3-month workshop that aims to enhance the research capabilities of young students without them worrying about the “science” and “purpose” behind what they are researching, leveraging only curiosity as the driving force. The program offers content that teaches the scientific way of thinking and scientific method via online video materials that participants can refer to any time they want to, in concert with individual mentoring provided by Leave a Nest experts. This project helps students develop their own hypotheses, make observations, acquire data, and analyze data for future research activities.

*“Ki ni naru” is a Japanese phrase that means “curious”.

Target Audience:
Filipino middle and high school students who want to reinforce their basic research skills.

Schedule:
2022/02/11: Kick-off session
2022/02/14 ~ 2022/04/21: Viewing of pre-recorded lecture videos and mentoring sessions
2022/04/22: Final presentations

Organizer: Leave a Nest Philippines, Inc.

Co-sponsor: Wela Online Corp.

*All program offerings were conducted online.

The program offered in Malaysia: Drone Educosystem Project

Program Overview:
In this program, students will undergo three series of workshops subdivided as follows: 1) “Introduction of Drone”, 2) “Building Your Own Drone Parts”, and 3) “Assemble & Fly Your Drone”. In the first workshop, they will learn the fundamentals of how drones work, the application of drones in industries, and what kind of career paths are related to drones. Not only fundamental knowledge of drones, participants will also become equipped with a Technopreneurship Mindset which is important to navigate their future career paths. In the second workshop, they will learn how to create their own 3D Printed Drone using 3D Printing, and lastly, in the third workshop, they will learn how to assemble and fly the drones they built. The knowledge acquired throughout this workshop will especially be useful if the student wants to participate in future drone competitions that Leave a Nest and MyCRO will organize in October.

Target Audience:
Malaysian High school students who are interested in Engineering, drones, and technology implementation in our society.

Schedule:
