New Year’s Greetings for 2024
The year 2024 has begun.
On June 14, 2023, we celebrated our 21st anniversary and renewed our corporate brand – from “The Knowledge-based Platform” to “The Knowledge Manufacturing Company”. Even in this age of technological advancement, there remain plenty of Deep Issues we must face in our world. To solve them, it is essential to create new knowledge by combining the existing knowledge; in other words, Knowledge Manufacturing. In our new corporate brand, Leave a Nest has expressed its determination to make “Knowledge Manufacturing” as its calling.
In addition, Joe Inoue, who has been leading our technology and knowledge creation as CTO and CKO, has changed his title to Chief Culture Officer (CCO), a leader who makes Knowledge Manufacturing a reality and creates the culture of the organization. In this new era, it is of utmost importance to create a culture that serves as the foundation for education/human/research/frontier development.
Last year, we set forth the theme of “Connecting Various Regions in Japan to Southeast Asia”, and set up projects that will contribute to Global Happiness in a simultaneous and multi-faceted manner with the concerted efforts of the entire group.
In Japan, we took on the challenge of expanding the Regional Tech Planters, which had been held in prefectural units, to a wider area, and held them for the first time in two areas, Tohoku and Kansai. We have also created many partnerships with core companies that represent the regions. Through these activities we have come to believe that the Deep Tech that exists in the peripheral region in Japan can solve the issues facing Southeast Asia.
Our Education Development Business also made great strides. In October, the next generation from seven countries in Japan and Southeast Asia gathered in Malaysia for the first time to hold Science Castle ASIA 2023, creating an opportunity to unleash the great power of the leaders of the 2050s. Science Castle, which started in 2012 as a conference for middle and high school students, is now evolving into a place to discover and collaborate with the next generation of global leaders.
Also, the transition to the Co-President system has strengthened the foundation of the group's overseas connections. In November, two of us as CO-Presidents, took the podium at the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Southeast Asia. We were able to experience firsthand the rapid growth of each country and the issues that have emerged as a result, while creating opportunities to initiate new projects with local researchers, venture companies, various corporations, and government agencies. Issues, for example, to propel science education and entrepreneurship education in the Philippines, on environment in general and traffic congestion in Thailand, and the various missing pieces for venture building at universities and research institutions.
And in 2024, under the theme of “Creating more Experimental Projects”, Leave a Nest will challenge to create many unprecedented seeds of projects. To make it hapen, we will follow our way of trying out things “smaller in scale, more detailed, as many opportunities and as quickly as possible”.
The situation of our world is changing rapidly. Nowadays, democracy is being shaken and the growth rate of the world economy would be sluggish. As the uncertain situation accelerates, 4D thinking, which looks at the world over a time axis, will become increasingly important during this year to determine our future. As a leader who combines 4D thinking with the power of execution ability, Leave a Nest will launch projects to solve global issues through repeated experiments and observations by itself.
On March 8-9, we will hold the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Tokyo 2024, where researchers, ventures, corporates, national and local government agencies, and the next generation from Japan and Southeast Asia will gather to create experimental projects that exceed, connect, and change the world. In addition, a new initiative will be launched to foster 4D thinking by traveling around Japan and Southeast Asia and experiencing local issues firsthand, centered on Hyper Interdisciplinary Conferences to be held in five locations in Japan and six countries in Southeast Asia during the year of 2024.
Leave a Nest was born from a group of graduate students who believe in the power of science and technology, based on the vision of “Advancing Science and Technology for Global Happiness”. Always with a positive/constructive attitude, we will present new hypotheses and take the lead in setting up solutions to the world's issues.
Please keep an eye on our activities over the next year.
