The inaugural Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Indonesia 2022

 

Terima kasih, thank you for making the first Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Indonesia 2022 a success. 

On 12th November 2022, Leave a Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. conducted the first Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference (HIC) in Indonesia in 2022 and the event was held at BLOCK71 Jakarta, Ariobimo Sentral, South Jakarta, Indonesia. At Leave a Nest, we believe through this knowledge platform, we can build a strong relationship between the industry, government and researchers to create new collaborations together in the future. 

HIC in Indonesia 2022 was supported by Aerodyne Group as the Main Partner, Maruha Nichiro Corporation as Session Partner, and Euglena Co., Ltd. as a Supporting Partner. We brought the theme of “Blue Archipelago: Revolutionise Indonesian Marine and Coastal Economy” for the first HIC in Indonesia to improve the overall life and livelihood of the coastal communities in Indonesia. We received a total of seventy-four participants coming from various industries and fields that joined to stimulate the creation of new knowledge and allow the adoption of knowledge to overcome the foreseen challenges.

The one-day conference featured key activities including Keynote Session, Panel Discussion session, Research Splash and Tech Splash Sessions and Poster Exhibition. The Keynote Session on Enabling Sustainable Coastal Economy to Improve Indonesian Livelihood began with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Ocky Karna Radjasa, Chairman of the Research Organization for Earth Sciences and Maritime, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), who shared the current landscape and challenges in Indonesian coastal ecosystem and BRIN’s research and innovation supporting the coastal ecosystem. The keynote speech was followed by a panel discussion on the same topic and moderated by our Managing Director, Mr. Abdul Hakim Sahidi. In this panel discussion, we had our main partner, Aerodyne Group, represented by Mr. Razwan Zakaria and Mr. Walesa Danto from Aruna discussing initiatives to enhance the coastal economy in Indonesia.

Next, was the Startup Splash led by our supporting partner,  Euglena Do., Ltd. represented by Dr. Kengo Suzuki, founder, and executive officer. We were able to listen to an exciting and informative sharing presentation by six researchers from Euglena Co., Ltd, BRIN, IPB University, Diponegoro University and Hasanuddin University. This session was followed by a poster exhibition where all participants fully utilised the time for networking and discussing potential collaboration among each other.   

Dr. Kengo Suzuki, founder and executive officer of Euglena Co., Ltd. introduced the Euglena project under Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) to audiences.

In the afternoon session of the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Indonesia 2022, the event continues with the second-panel discussion sponsored by Maruha Nichiro Corporation. With the theme Enhancement of Blue Carbon for Life Below Water and Sustainable Fisheries, we have Dr. Tadakazu Tamai, Manager for the Central Research Institute, Maruha Nichiro Corporation together with Prof. Dr. Luky Adrianto from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University and Mr. Bagas Musamma Nanda from Roshark Marine. Moderated by Ms. Aisyah Abdul Hamid, Project Leader of HIC in Indonesia 2022, the session is set to discuss sustaining the blue carbon ecosystem in Indonesia and potential collaboration that could be made related to the blue economy.

The session was followed by a Tech Splash session where we had eight startups pitch for five minutes about their breakthrough research/innovation under the theme: Underpinning Coastal Economic Transition to Optimize Wealth. We were overjoyed when the Tech Splash speakers feedbacked to us that after the event, they will be starting a project together with the speakers they met during the event.

The final session for the very first edition of the Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference in Indonesia 2022 was moderated by Dr. Mohd Izwan Zainol. We were honoured to have panellists from New Energy Nexus, Frogs Indonesia, the University of Indonesia and Geolabx Innovation with us for this session discussing modernizing coastal transportation for better accessibility. In this session, the panellists shared their concerns about the transportation challenges and gaps in Indonesia as well as encouraged the startups and coastal community to be independent.
