Experiencing Japanese Tech First-Hand! – Addi’s experience in Japan
Last week, I had the privilege of travelling to Japan with Leave a Nest Singapore! To visit the Leave a Nest HQ in Tokyo and Osaka alongside members from Malaysia and Philippines. This annual trip for new members was a welcome experience to connect and ideate with Leave a Nest members across Asia.
Many great conversations were exchanged. However, my highlight was most certainly the visit to DAWN | Avatar Robot Cafe ver.β on Friday 14th June. The 3 new members who joined the Singapore office in the last year (Ambrose, Isaac and myself), went down for lunch to experience firsthand the technology of OryLab, a Japanese startup solving human loneliness through communication technology.
This cute robot is OryLab's endeavour to connect bedridden individuals back into society. Behind the green glowing eyes, we were served by a bedridden gentleman nicknamed Tom Cruise (not his real name) who was extremely friendly and jovial, and showed us his experience of controlling the robot. Many laughs were exchanged. I was touched by the technology's strong targetted impact for bedridden individuals.
Through this first-hand experience, I am excitedly working on a proposal toward OryLab to bring their technology and their impact into Singapore.
