Panelist 1:
Associate Professor Dr. Normi Mohd. Yahaya,
Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences,Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Background Profile :
Dr. Normi is one of the principal investigators of Enzyme and Microbial Technology Research Center. She graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a joint PhD with Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN), Saitama, Japan, in Molecular Biology, specializing in Protein Engineering. She received her postdoctoral training in structural biology, specifically in protein NMR at Université de Lorraine, France.
Her current research involves elucidating the structures and functions of proteins and designing proteins and peptides for industrial application.
She is a recipient of the L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award 2015, 44th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress 2013 Young Scholar Award and American Chemical Society PACIFICHEM Young Scholar Award 2010. She was one of the selected Young Scientists for the 60th Meeting of Nobel Prize Winners with Young Scientists in Lindau, Germany, 2010, an alumnus of Global Young Academy and former Chair of APEC Science Communication Working Group in Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

Dr. Tnah Lee Hong
Researcher, Genetics Lab, Biotechnology Forestry Division,
Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)
Background Profile :
Dr. Tnah has a Ph.D. in Phylogeography & Evolution from UM, M.Sc. in Genetic Resources from UPM and B.Sc. in Industrial Biology from UTM.
Her research areas involved forensic forestry and timber tracking system using DNA approach, plant DNA barcoding, phylogeography and evolution history of tropical timbers, plant population and conservation genetics, molecular markers technology and next generation sequencing. She is a recipient of Japanese International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers 2013 by Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and recipient of the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) Student Award for Excellence in Forest Sciences at the XXIII IUFRO World Congress, Korea in 2010. Dr. Tnah outstanding research work has been recorded by Malaysian Book of Records for three times (in year 2018, 2017, and 2012).
